Biden and Maddow AGREE!

Lauren Underwood is a rising star and her accomplishments prove that.

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood passed four significant pieces of legislation in her first term and now has sponsored a package of twelve bills to address Black maternal health 2 B included in the president's family plan.

Motivation. More legislative achievements! (Easy answer! Thanks for asking!)

Perceived facts
Oh good grief! Obviously a passive-aggressive way to insinuate that what we're observing... the facts... aren't real. What a bizarre interpretation. How can actual legislative accomplishments and getting things DONE be "perceived" as anything other than positive?

I've always been impressed with politicians whose success is measured by legislative accomplishments and and policies rather than re-tweets and total number of followers.

or not chasing media exposure, so that few people are aware of her, inevitably brings to mind the kind who are constantly puffed up in the media as big noises -- even though their achievements and respect of their colleagues may be far less.

It's an unfair world, but many refuse to be yanked around by people who play media games. Every new class brings new potential negislative stars and future leaders, the real thing, and Underwood at 34 years old is one of them.

When we hear a person's tweeted something social media's making noise about, we should remember the job is about legislating and maybe go check to see if who that public noise is meant to influence -- fellow legislators whose support is needed to pass a bill or those on their donor lists to keep them enthusiastic? Underwood's admired because she's already become a redoubtable legislator, using her position in the nation's center of power to make a real difference for the people.

Indeed it is! Too many politicians waste time with an compulsive obsession of engaging in a never-ending 'popularity contest'. It's so bad that these "me-me-me" politicians put themselves above all other considerations. No price is too high. No insult too great. No divisive slight too extreme. No attack or smear is too risky.

I guess what I'm trying to say, and what it all boils down to is this: Rather than being willing to form coalitions, and rather than being willing make compromises and find common ground, there are a some politicians who are just incapable or unwilling, and who see the "all or nothing" mantra as a point of personal pride (even when it results in achieving NOTHING!)

Isn't that sad? Boasting about "sticking to their principles" and coming home with NOTHING because of an unwillingness to compromise and at least make a little progress (and bring us closer to the "perfection" we all seek).

Putting personal pride and vanity above the needs of the people is a character flaw. It's definitely NOT something that I look for in any elected representative who hopes to earn my support.

Exactly! We build our future on legislative accomplishments, not tweets and retweets. It should always be about the voters, the citizens, one's constituents and making their lives better. I'm tired of politicians who obsess with the number of twitter followers or facebook subscribers she or he has.

It's a shame that the press is also obsessed with superficial things. They should be more responsible and let the public know more of the nuts and bolts of what's being done FOR us as well as what's being done TO us.

All I'm trying to say is that the "total celebrity" and "reality show" aspect of showboating and grandstanding politicians (no matter the party and no matter how popular she/he may appear to be) should always be the LAST consideration on whether what they're doing is newsworthy.

Did you condemn Nina Turner when she compared President Biden to a half bowl of shit?

Do you question why some Dems are supporting Turner after those comments?

She has support of Justice Democrats and The Peoples Party. You should research those members.

and have kept out of it for the most part. I find that she says inflammatory things, seemingly thoughtlessly. As I don't live in her district or state and know only a little about her, I've never had much reason to delve very deeply into her world view.

I didn't like that comment nor did I agree with it. I suspect that she's got a little too full of herself and feels invicincible.

So...in your mind, the squad are not Democrats and thus unworthy of support?

My point was that there was no reason to bring anyone into it and it cheapens the praise for the Democrat you like by using her to denigrate the Democrats you hate.

And make no mistake, those four women are also Democrats.

You are putting words in my mouth that I never said.

Hate is a very strong word and again you are putting words in my mouth that I never spoke. I denigrated no one.

I also suggest you read up on Justice Democrats.

Rep Underwood was not "used" by me. She has shone brightly and President Biben and Maddow both acknowledged her legislative accomplishments and will do so with the squad when they do the same. So in The President and Maddow's mind are they denigrating the squad by praising a black woman's accomplishments because they are not a member?

Fact, my favorite squad member is Pressley. She is from my state. She bared her soul and bared head in front of us all. She is an inspiration to all women.
