I would expect from Seminole County. A Democrat who will bring white gloves to a gun fight.
I paraphrase, but the comment that exposed her was at the end of the interview. It had to do with what the Democrats were going to have to do to get around Republican reluctance to cooperate. She said she didn't believe in changing rules to reach objectives. We all know what that means.
I don't want to call her naive, because I don't think that's what is at play. In Central Florida, I have seen many Democrats in office who fall short of laying everything on the line. It's because they want to stay relevant in the backwater social and business networks -- FOR THEIR PERSONAL INTEREST.
Orlando has always been controlled by a hidden core of intra-social and business networks. Everything you see that looks like a democratic process is a dummy veneer. So, no one new that walks into political office is going to "do the right thing" because it would mean being cauterized from the groups that are controlling decisions in this area. And this involves everything, including the welfare of your children, because people who reach this level of relevancy can get jobs and college entrances for their children, with just a phone call. That's the truth about how Florida works.
You see this kind of reluctance everywhere you look. I read a newspaper article from a known reporter, who revealed that he didn't investigate or report on his own city government, even though politics and government is his specialty. I had to laugh the way he worded that revelation. Something like, and I'm sure they're glad that I don't cover this city.
What a joke. He's not taking on hardcore good ole boy lawyers because he knows it will affect the welfare of his children. Maybe he should get another job and leave reporting to bachelors.

I'm not so sure that says a lot about Central Florida.

(10,167 posts)A friend ran for the Florida State Senate a few years ago. I asked him why he was running. After half-heartedly repeating the usual stuff, like wanting better schools, lower crime, etc., he added it would be "good for business."
