(12,262 posts)I read a headline where the "evangelist" Christians have altered and deleted certain passages and Gawd knows what else concerning slavery and Jews.

(29 posts)An IPI poll suggests that American evangelical Christians have dropped from about a quarter of the population to about 15 percent just since 2006. This is due to deaths (they're the oldest segment identifying as Christian), leaving the fevered fold for more moderate mainline Christianity, and the rising generation not signing up for the sanctimonious cruelty and BS of their parents. As a species, we sense when certain tolerated segments of our kind are too destructive for the group. It might take decades, but we take care of business by letting the a-holes self-select out of the journey and fade away.

(14,853 posts)There was no dress code or uniforms that prevented it.
My boss was an evangelical who wore Christian clothing, crosses and the like. He was also obsessed with money and the stock market.
His facial expression on the day that I wore that hoodie made it clear that it angered him. Then he mostly gave me the silent treatment for about a week until I was suddenly one of the "down-sized" there, by sheer coincidence of course. Little skin off my nose, despite how I was one of his most dependable and hard-working employees.
Most so-called Christians only pick out the passages that they like.

(14,853 posts)... didn't appreciate me buying and wearing that hoodie just for him. (Not that I ever told him that, or that I said ANYTHING about it other than simply wearing the hoodie one day.)
It was the only time that I made my feelings known to him at all, silently tolerating his narcissistic Christian references and his periodic efforts to probe into my own beliefs for several months.
You're correct that nobody truly follows it:

(13,180 posts)Republicanism is just a major example of the human selfishness, fearfulness, laziness, resentfulness impulses finding a way to cloak themselves in painted-on virtue. When it comes to Christianity and patriotism, most Republicans have the T-Shirt, but they ain't been there, done that.
