Florida man 'sparks security scare and flight chaos by threatening to BLOW UP Fort Lauderdale Airport after missing his flight

A bomb threat that sparked a security scare and an hours-long shut down of Fort Lauderdale Airport Saturday has been cleared, but over 100 flights are delayed.

A source told Fox News a passenger reportedly missed his flight and threatened to blow up the place, though police had not confirmed any details of the incident.

That suspect - who has not been identified - is not believed to have had any explosive material in his possession.

The only official police statements came from The Broward County Sheriff Office, which confirmed a bomb threat was made at 8:49am in a 11:46am tweet and the airport was safe to reopen in a 12:36pm tweet.

As of 1:15pm, 80 outgoing flights have been delayed and 72 inbound flights are delayed, according to the flight-tracking service FlightAware. .............(more)

A 74-year-old Broward County man is facing a criminal charge after police say he made a false bomb threat Saturday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Wegal Rosen of Deerfield Beach was taken into custody shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday after he made the threat following a verbal dispute with a ticket counter employee, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

He remained in custody without bail today at the Broward County Jail. Rosen faces one count of false reporting concerning planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction.

Who doesn't know that talking about blowing stuff up is not taken lightly in an airport?
Answer is nobody!
Everyone knows you don't even joke about bombs when one is in an airport.
I hope they drop the hammer on this tool.

If all he wanted to do was spend a night in jail in Governor Praying DeMantis' God-fearin', red-blooded, CRT-hatin' Floridah, all he had to do was try and teach American history accurately and he would've been put in cuffs immediately without the added federal charges tacked on.

According to a Broward Sheriff's Office statement, Rosen attempted to walk away from the ticket counter without his carry-on luggage and was advised that he needed to take his luggage with him. He then responded by telling the ticket counter agent there was a bomb in the bag.

Rosen left the bag and proceeded to walk to another terminal, investigators said. A bomb squad and detectives from the Threat Management Unit evacuated three terminals and conducted a sweep. They determined that the threat was unfounded.

So he gets in an argument with a ticket agent, leaves his carry on behind, gets called back to grab it, and he leaves it saying there is a bomb in it.

That isn't just some hothead saying something stupid in a moment of rage. That was a thought out strategy that involved leaving his own possessions behind.

He will have plenty of time to think about it though. Unless he has dementia and a lawyer claims he isn't competent to stand trial, he won't stand a chance with a jury. If he is incompetent, he will be confined to a nursing home. His life is over.

My friends are burying their dad tomorrow. Family flying into FLL from Boston and NYC delayed due to this a-hole. Just what they needed.

Thousands of other travelers missing important events. Throw the book at him!

Our flight was, thankfully, on time after experience a 5 hour delay when we flew up on Thursday (due to storms).

So, I checked the flight board when we arrived. Just about every flight was delayed and the place was packed.

I'm sure this news was part of that.

had become somewhat common. I was a ticket agent at DCA, Washington National Airport. At first they'd close the airport, send us all outside, and search for the supposed bomb. Never was any such threat a real one. And yeah, the ones they could trace back to whoever made it, were invariably from people running late for a flight.
