Do they expect them to work for free?
What does it mean if they "de-fund" the Capitol Police?
The protective fence has been taken down. If the Capitol Police refuse to work without pay, who protects the Capitol the next time there is a "rally" in Washington?
Wouldn't this just be the ideal time for another insurrection?
Maybe it won't turn out as well as the other one?
Maybe they will shut down the entire Congress?
If that happens, what would it mean for our democracy?
The coup continues.

(24,284 posts)Bring them in to handle security at the Capitol. It is Federal property. And I mean "handle security" in such a way that it will make McConnell regret what he did.
When you can't make someone do something, make them wish they had.

is a funny term. When talking about the government, we are usually talking executive branch agencies, the Congress and the courts dont fall under the President.

(297,196 posts)In a statement on Friday, [Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Patrick] Leahy said that Senate Democrats had "not found a willing partner" in Republicans in negotiations over a security supplemental.
Why do we always talk in these roundabout terms about Republican obstructionism? Why cant we say something like Republicans are once again putting our Capitol and our country at risk by refusing to fund the brave officers who protected us from the murderous insurrection on January 6. We cant let them turn us into a lawless, fascist state. Actually, Id prefer something a lot stronger, but this is about as much righteous indignation as Democratic politicians seem to be able to muster.
