A jury said it should pay her $125 million.

A federal jury determined on Friday that Walmart violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it fired an employee with Down syndrome following issues related to her work schedule.

After a four-day trial in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the jury awarded Marlo Spaeth $125 million in damages. Before her termination, Spaeth worked at Walmart for about 16 years.

A Walmart spokesperson told Insider the verdict was expected to be reduced to $300,000, which is the maximum amount allowed under federal law.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission represented Spaeth, presenting evidence on three claims of disability discrimination against Walmart.

Had it been 125 million, Walmart would appeal and possibly win leaving the worker with nothing.

... something wrong with a company that makes that kind of moolahloo out of the wallets of mostly middle class or below. Let alone Walmart had to apply for billions in social program and have for years.

All they usually really do is middle for factories offshore.

No undocumented immigrants ever "stole" skilled jobs at any kind of rate corporations exported those jobs.

The fine is as much about punishing Walmart, and I don't think even $125M makes any difference at all. All she's guaranteed is $300,000, less attorney fees.

That's doesn't seem to have that much justice to it. In Walmart's eyes the verdict will never be in her favor. "We'll start a settlement negotiation and our first bid is $300,000, we didn't do nuthin', AND we won't promise to never do it again."
