They were all vaccinated. I have to believe they were exposed before they left Austin...probably by one of their fellow repuke colleagues.
Also someone was asking the other day about donating to them. Here is a link.

Now, the lege (which was in session before they left) a bunch of repubs were no doubt running around unvaccinated and maskless.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)Since everybody was vaccinated, it's safe to assume no one was wearing masks, cause CDC says so.

(13,604 posts)Some of the delegation had meetings this week with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.; and Vice President Kamala Harris. It's not clear if any of the members who tested positive were in the meetings.

(44,980 posts)But looking at the photos of Harris meeting them, looks like she met with a whole bunch of them (presumably the whole delegation?) First of them tested positive on Friday. The other two on Saturday.
Delta becomes infectious before symptoms show up.
Liberal In Texas
(13,604 posts)They probably are following CDC guidelines that it's OK to be maskless inside with other vaccinated people.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)Like I already said, first tested positive on Friday. The other two on Saturday. Delta becomes infectious before symptoms show up, so if the three were there (and it looks to me like the whole delegation was there), they were likely already infectious.

(65,325 posts)I'd bet $100 that most of the repuke legislators are vaxxed.
They did it secretly, and they still push antivax BS, but I bet the vast majority are vaxxed.

(44,980 posts)CDC declared vaccinated people don't need masks. Of course everybody stopped wearing masks (un-vaxxed aren't going to wear masks unless made to wear masks). Now cases are increasing all over US.
And in several states hospitals are filling back up.

(4,033 posts)As a physician, I have relied on the CDC for decades, and I would agree with you for calling Trump a sick joke for politicizing the CDC, but then you should go and call all the agencies that Trump politicized a sick joke, e.g. NOAA, DEA, FDA, NASA, FBI, CIA, etc. All sick jokes, huh?

Of course CDC told us vaccinated people don't have to wear masks, so I doubt anyone was wearing masks at those meeting. Our president is also running around un-masked (and he is not a spring chicken).
Thanks, CDC!

(51,074 posts)The first time they followed up by saying if we just all wash our hands real well, we would be fine.
And don't get me started on when they announced that hydrochloroquinine was "worth studying."
And the second time was just when highly infectious delta started spreading.
FBaggins
(26,782 posts)Three people tested positive. It's probably too soon after their flights to even connect the two... but if nobody gets serious symptoms, then that doesn't support an argument that they should all have been masked.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)I guess we have to wait and see how many more will end up infected, before you decide if they should have been masked?
FBaggins
(26,782 posts)We would have to have evidence of an actual harmful impact of the policy before wondering whether it shouldn't be the policy.
Three positive tests with only one person with minor symptoms certainly doesn't approach that threshold. At this point we don't have to "decide" anything at all. We don't have to "wait" for anything.
The only mistake at this point is the apparent hypocrisy.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)But I guess it's all good?
FBaggins
(26,782 posts)It doesnt speak to the relative masked/unmasked risk of fully vaccinated people.
LisaL
(44,980 posts)it irrelevant?
FBaggins
(26,782 posts)Absolute infection numbers dont say anything about the risk to vaccinated people and to what extent that risk is mitigated by mask wearing.
Very few of those infections represent vaccinated individuals and we already know that even the breakthrough cases have much better outcomes.

Reagan fucked up the CDC by making its director a political appointee. Trump made the director his sniveling little bitch
This nation, supposedly a leader in health care has been devastated by COVID
I will scream it on the roof tops:
THE CDC IS A SICK FUCKING JOKE they bear responsibility for 100s of thousands of American deaths. A complete abrogation of their mission
Remember the initial fuck up on the testing? Just one example of what a miserable failure the CDC is

But with over 50 House Democrats in Washington along with 12 paid staff the costs are quickly mounting and the existing funds are not unlimited. Democrats have started making fundraising pitches to help finance their decampment that allows them to keep blocking the passage of GOP voting legislation in Texas...

The Democratic leaders in Texas are all vaccinated of course, but they still come in contact with the public. Considering the vaccination rate in Texas, it's likely that a few Covid spreaders are unquarantined, and walking around maskless.
