And may I just add, if you haven't read March, Mr. Lewis' 3 volume graphic novel style memoir of his work in the civil rights movement, I can't recommend it highly enough! You don't necessarily have to buy it, because a lot of public libraries have it, but if you do buy it, I predict it will be a cherished part of your home library.

All 3 volumes are available as a slipcased set from Amazon or any major bookstore.

It just seems unbelieveable that we are fighting the same fight for equal rights. Even worse, we are now fighting to preserve our democracy. What is wrong with people?

In April of 2014 John Lewis walked across the recently built Peace Bridge in Derry in the North of Ireland with the Nobel laureate John Hume. He was there to encourage people working together as a means to unity, for the betterment of society. Earlier on his visit he viewed a tribute mural in Belfast that depicted Frederick Douglass, who had visited the island in the mid 1800’s, a dark age for the natives subjected to the tyranny and perfidy of England. “ Sometimes the reconciliation we seek may take years to see, but you must know your work is not in vain. We all live in the same house... One people, ...one human family...” . His contribution to a better future for this part of Ireland is duly noted and appreciated” Well -intentioned people there won’t give up the quest for a better future thanks to the inspiration of Mr. Lewis.
