(42,642 posts)I thought for sure with all the advances in science, medicine, manufacturing, communications, access to clean water and disinfectant that we would not see a repeat of all the mistakes of the 1918 pandemic. Nope. A quick internet search show 675,000 U.S. deaths for that pandemic. We're currently at 608,000 with Covid. It did not have to be that way.

(182,958 posts)Coffees and tea parties were held for housewifes to come over and listen. The whole thing was a mass marketing effort by existing healthcare companies. The wives went home and it would almost necessarily come up in conversation with the husband. This was in the early to mid 50s I think.
