(86,586 posts)I have heard of it and have advocated the on humans as a self defense tool but not for acts of aggression. It has been on the minds of many ever since the product became available.

(7,410 posts)Its better to have the regular self defense pepper spray designed for humans because bear spray is more diluted. Its actually illegal to carry bear spray for self defense in many jurisdictions due to the size of the container, many places limit spray sizes to a few ounces and bear spray canisters can be here 12+ ounces.
For example in California, to legally carry and use spray for self defense, the size is limited to 2.5 ounces, like the small pocket and key chain size sprays.

(65,013 posts)Bear spray, commercially available, is 1.4-1.8% capsaicin, by weight.
The self-defense versions of the product are sold at 5-10%.
So, it's 4 or 5 times stronger.
