A Michigan school says requiring students to wear masks in classrooms would violate sincerely held religious beliefs because they say humans were made in the image of God, and masks shield that image from being seen.

Someone please ask them why they require the godly glory of human genitals to be shielded from view?

On Wednesday, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments on whether requiring Michigan students to wear masks in classrooms violates their constitutional rights.
The case involves a Catholic elementary school Lansing-based Resurrection School which contends that any state mandate that children age five and older wear a mask in classrooms is unconstitutional.
The school says such a rule would violate sincerely held religious beliefs because they say humans were made in the image of God, and masks shield that image from being seen.
They also allege requiring masks poses a health or learning problem for students who have allergies, difficulty breathing, or trouble being understood when they talk through a face covering.

The superintendent of Detroits Public Schools Community District, for one, says at the moment they plan to require masks indoors unless everyone in a room is vaccinated. Children under age 12 are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine.

God gave us Penises, Vaginas & Breasts, so why should we be forced to wear clothes, or shoes, when entering establishments.
IT'S A VIOLATION OF MY FREEDOMS!!

(31,261 posts)Using the logic of the leaders of that school, us wearing clothes to cover our nudity violates the image that god made us in. Maybe we all should just start wearing fig leaves over our genitals. Supposedly god was ok with Adam and Eve wearing a fig leaf, but said nothing about clothing that cover the whole body.

(101,409 posts)Most of the times the nuns used veils similar to the burqa used by some Muslim women. They used to pull their ordinary veil down to their chins to cover their faces. Some even wore their veils all down to their chests.
The nuns did this every time they went outside the convent or had to meet persons from the outside. In 1561 St. Theresa of Avila wrote a letter were she outlined the rules for the convents she intended to start. Among other things, she was very explicit about the use of face veils among her nuns: There will be no more than fifteen nuns in it, who will practice very strict enclosure, never going out or allowing themselves to be seen without veils covering their faces.
The following is written by Father Kieran Kavanaugh in his introduction to The Collected Works of St. Teresa of Avila: In one of its religious uses the veil became the sign of consecrated woman. In Teresas time it caused no surprise or annoyance to see nuns with their faces veiled; this was often done by other women as well when they ventured into the streets.
...
Over the years several orders of nuns have used different styles of veils to conceal their faces. Elizabeth Kuhns writes in her book The Habit that some nuns used a hood with only a narrow opening for the eyes. Among some orders of nuns, even niqab-style veils have been used.
