"You know that was a space flight designed by a man because it was loud, disappointingly brief, and he thinks everybody else is as satisfied as he is."

As goes Sagal's opiniin of Bezos' Space Flight, so goes Pete Sagal's Running Book
.."because it was loud, disappointingly brief, and he thinks everybody else is as satisfied as he is."
Womp..Mr Sagal
😄
You're a nobody with a twitter page trying to sell your book.
When future flyers take to space & safely return, because of what was learned from Bezos's flight today, you running book will be in the $3 bin at the used book store.
Who are you again Mr Sagal??
Never heard of the guy ~

(15,325 posts)Meanwhile Chef Jose Andres receives 100 mill from Bezos for his gift of feeding ppl in the worst emergency scenarios.
The Spanish-born chef celebrity Jose Garces, whose not-for-profit relief agency World Central Kitchen, has provided tens of millions of millions of meals following natural disasters and other upheavals, is one of two people named today (7/20) to receive $100 million prizes from Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos as the inaugural recipients of what's being called the Courage and Civility Award.
So Mr Sagal, you just keep seeking a publicity spot to hock that book, there are better humanitarians being recognized for their unrelenting good works, far outside a neatly configured TV/Radio Studio.
Piss off With your sneering at the benefit of what Bezos chooses to do with his life.
Its his life.
Maybe go have a comfy convo with Trump's buddy Ro.
Sneerers gotta sneer .

(24,470 posts)You can go right ahead the think Bezos is a great man but the rest of us might have other opinions.
And you should catch "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me' on NPR. It's great!

(12,534 posts)And he had a very LARGE team working on this. And you can bet they are all very well paid too. And this type of flight will make scientific flights easier & cheaper.
Personally I dont use Amazon because i try my best to buy local. From businesses that pay local taxes.
Budi
(15,325 posts)Yes, he's already offered to share the learned info from today's flight with educators & future scientists anxious to further their own endeavors.
This should be a STEM learning course.
Thanks Mr Bezos.

(14,853 posts)The answer depends on the meaning of your question, since NASA and other government organizations, like the Department of Defense, have contracted work with several companies for years. In one sense, we could argue that the Stealth aircraft used by our military were never created by our government. It was just financed by taxpayers to various corporations.
If that's not what you mean, then NASA recently launched the Perseverance mission to Mars with their own government-contracted rocket. The Atlas V-541, via the United Launch Alliance.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Launch_Alliance
Our government also funds research at several universities, and the taxpayer-funded discoveries are often given away to large corporations when they become marketable. So corporations are beneficiaries of such welfare programs too.
R&D can be very costly, so many corporations try to limit spending of their own money on it! Bell Labs did a lot of significant research years ago, back when Ma Bell pretty much had a monopoly.
