"Oliver Daemen, 18, became the youngest astronaut. He holds a private pilot's license and is a space enthusiast who will study physics in university this fall.
The Dutch teen took the place of still anonymous winner of a $28 million public auction, who asked to pass this time because of "scheduling conflicts," and will go on a later trip.
Daemen's ticket was paid for by his father, the CEO of a private equity firm, CNBC reported."

(11,457 posts)And he is going later. The kid was one of the runner ups for the auction and was going in a few months, yes daddy paid. They both wanted to go but father said he couldn't afford two so let his son go.
Talk about privilege, but the kid seemed nice, appreciative and super happy today.
Can you imagine what it would have to be to miss the first flight? Or maybe when your that rich its oh yawn, I can do that later!
