I'm glad I got vaxxed back in the spring

Because I am sick as dog these last two days with Covid.

Sick, but not hospitalized. I'm not to the point of needing oxygen - I can stay home. I'll take it.

I love the rural life, I do. But I really want to take a baseball bat to so many of my neighbors.

We should have been done with this but no, all you snot rags decided to volunteer to be human petri dishes until a new and "better" version of Covid came along.

Fuck 'em.

I cannot kick a regular flu without steroids, last one I had was eleven years ago, it was bad, but I contracted it from my sister at my husband's funeral, and it killed her within a month. Years ago when I was in nursing school they explained the 1917 pandemic, they told us back then we were long overdue for the next one. A year ago March I had planned to take a trip out of state, but I did not like what I was hearing out of China. And sure enough, that was it. Dear Leader praised Xi's handling of the outbreak, and then followed his playbook of denial and downplaying. And in typical trumpanzee fashion, they blame China and attack random innocent Asian people here-because........just because. The early mitigation that could have controlled this nightmare did not happen, now it has a foothold, and the virus does what any virus does, adapt for survival. How cliché is it that this looks like a cheesy horror flick that always starts with politicians ignoring scientists?

I am off to get a COVID test this morning. I received my two vaccinations this spring as well.

I feel terrible. I have sneezed for days and have a constant sore throat, slight fever, chills, shortness of breath, and extreme fatigue.

I know what a cold feels like. I also have pretty bad seasonal allergies and know what they feel like. Somehow this just feels different.

I don't know what symptoms you are having. I have been wearing my mask if I am out and about. However, none of the guys my husband works with wear masks, and we have no idea if any of them have received vaccinations. I don't know where I could have picked up the virus if I do test positive.

I really do hope you feel better very soon, The Polack MSgt.

I could not have said it better.

Mine started on Friday of last week with a headache. Saturday with stuffy sinus, sore throat, runny nose, and sneezing. That progressed to coughing over the next couple of days. The cough is gone, my sinuses are dry and I'm sneezing a bit, and my body is just drained of energy, but over-all I'm feeling way better.

I started my summer break this week, so I'll be home for the next 2 months, or until the heat breaks down here, so I'm in good shape.

I'm very glad that I got vaccinated as well, and as for those who did not, I feel exactly as you do.

I was able to sneak in to get my shots back in March because there were so many appointments being missed. I've got friends who kept me posted about available doses caused by the missed appointments. As bad as this was, I couldn't imagine how bad it would have been if I hadn't been vaccinated.

It is true that they are mislead and misinformed - But I have run out of sympathy.

They are willfully ignorant and stubbornly defiant.

Not just about the vaccine (although that's an example of malignant ignorance that'll be studied by anthropologists for decades) but literally EVERYTHING.

Their entire being is wrapped up into this false identity of a "Conservative Patriot"

Their entire philosophy has devolved to hating Democrats. No other thought enters their dim and sluggish minds

Every day I'm looking at Pritzker Sucks! signs. Even in front of farms that would've went bankrupt without the deal Pritzker made with Taiwan to buy Illinois soybeans.

It was only 2 years back when 45 was flinging poo and calling it diplomacy and China canceled all US soybean purchases.

Pritzker saved many many family farms and they hate him.

I love them, but even after vaxxing, I wonder what airplane pathogens are coming with them. I have some health issues, and don't want any part of this. And the anti-vaxxers are going to need to be required to be vaccinated, either by employers, school systems, airlines and/or state and fed governments for us to get beyond this. This is not a freedumb issue with this incredibly transmissible variant. This is a national (international) crisis. Keep us posted.

When the vaccine 1st came out, I couldn't get it because I wasn't in the age group that could, By the time they got to my age group they opened it up to everyone less than a week later and I could not get an appointment,

By the time I could get it, I was too sick to. Finally, my doc said I could get the shot. They next day I got it, that was 3 weeks ago. But here is the kicker...

I still can't go out because of the f'n antivac, maskholes spreading Delta. My immune system, platelets and hemoglobin are so low that I would be lucky to survive. Fuck them all to hell and that includes a few of my family members. The only pace I have been since this started? The hospital, my doctors and the grocery store,

I MIGHT have been hit with CV in late June despite being fully vaccinated and covering, or it could have been a seasonal allergy sneaking in when leaving coverings in the car in the driveway. And with CV apparently acting like drying paint...I neglected to keep up with overall CV other than noting news reports.

I resumed attempts at tracking ((weekly, because FL then IA switched to weekly reporting, KS does it thrice weekly, many M-F, at least NE FINALLY resumed reporting albeit weekly)). ((But then I had to show up predawn to an event where only a half-dozen others covered up, so 15 Jul got skipped.))

Bottom line: ALL 50 states plus DC had just about thrice ((to a LOT more)) new weekly cases from 8-22 Jul than they had from 1-8 Jul. ((It's accelerating, people.))

Time to wear masks before stepping out the door??

sooner or later, will come, and their bad decisions will haunt them. Despite numerous health agencies citing the need for vaccinations, despite the countless reports of deaths across the Country, despite the daily onslaught of news on COVID this, COVID that, they still, by not getting vaccinated, put untold numbers of Americans in harms' way. I suspect most of us on DU got vaccinated, thank the powers that be, that some sanity reigns in some places.

I really hate the stupid, selfish, unvaccinated people and am ok with them getting sick and whatever happens from that - but I HATE them infecting others. Sad this happened to you. Glad you are one of the smart ones and were vaccinated so aren't having that bad of an illness. Hope you heal really soon!

Take Care, my friend.

My favorite niece got Covid a few months back in NYC. Merri said she was sick as she'd ever been for a couple of days and rebounded quickly. That sounds like what you're going through.

And for a quick and soeedy recovery I'd sure put my money on a dude that goes by The Polack MSgt.

But seriously, treat yourself to rest, relaxation, and recovery. Let your wife pamper you.

Sir Peter Medawar, Nobel Laureate in Medicine, once aptly said," A virus is a piece of bad news wrapped up in protein."
Take good care of yourself and let us know when you're feeling better. We're all pulling for you.

It may be the Dayquil talking - But I'm less miserable today

So I feel pretty confident it'll pass quickly. My friend Jimmy was on a vent for 17 days and from what he tells me I'm not having the super deluxe version.

The stages are similar but his disease was all of mine times 10. So I wasn't being sarcastic in saying I'm glad I was vaxxed

So glad you got the vaccine when you did. I got it as soon as it was made available to my group. Work called us back into the office on Tue-Thrus so WFH on Mon & Fri. I wear my mask as much as possible while at work. One fully vaxxed person I know of at work has already contracted Covid so I'm not taking any chances.

Keep us updated on your recovery progress.

They are proud to host the virus and help develop new strains. Just take some zinc, vitamins, and horse paste and you’ll be better in no time.

Sorry for that lame attempt at humor. Glad you are fully vaccinated and your wife is fine. Please get better soon. I’m sure my late great grandfather Shikowski would wish you well.

My nephew is career Army. When he was much younger (pre Army) he got mixed up with some bad folks, there was a photo of him and a couple of buddies in front of a notsee flag.

Fortunately the Army beat the stupid out of him. He’s married to a black woman and has two adorable kids. During the Obama years he ended up serving at Camp David. There’s a much nicer photo of him posing with then Vice President Biden in front of a Christmas tree.

I've been waiting for this.

At a meeting this morning one of our state folks delivered a lot of painful statistics on case rates, hospitalizations and available bed rates, etc. and then asked the ol' "good news or bad news?" thing.

Bad news first: Our state's rate of breakthrough infections is increasing, especially in border areas with our asshole-infested neighbor states (TX and AZ - CO is fine so far).

Good news: Hospitalization rate among breakthrough cases is negligible and so far death rate extremely low. Nonexistent where there are no additional vulnerability factors.

So I knew... people I know, like, care about, etc., who conscientiously got vaccinated, yep, we're gonna see some cases.

The esposo and I, having additional vulnerability factors, are re-implementing the 2020 lockdown mode as far as contact with other people goes. Cross-country trip to see my elderly Mom in Minnesota on hold again, dammit.

But I am so glad you're fighting it off. Be well soon!

encouragingly,
Bright

I appreciate your good thoughts.

Yeah I'm obviously locked up for the immediate future too. All of Southern Illinois is trending towards reinstating lock down practices if these folks don't wake up

In hindsight, I wish I had stayed masked up. I know that I live in Trump land, all those maskless MAGATs walking around as if they got the shots - Should have figured out that most were lying.

After all they've shown us how much they value truth and honor honesty

And we just haven't gone out that much, PERIOD.

And we're still healthy - for a couple of "old farts," anyway.

As far as I understand it, if you're vaccinated and you still contract the virus, it's going to be less of an ordeal, and likely not involving hospitalization - or worse.

Take care and take it easy, my friend.

Have they discussed monoclonal antibodies? My son is my son and he has been researching COVID and vaccines. He is in the Pfzier trial and has been asked to go into the booster trial.. My son also got me an appointment to be vaccinated back on Jan 16 when 2400 slots were made available at 10 AM and were all filled by 10:16.

I have a number of risk factors and I am still wearing a mask even though I have been fully vaccinated since Feb 28, It is son's belief that if you test positive you should ask for an infusion of monoclonal antibodies as soon as possible.

I urge you to discuss this treatment with your doctor.

I don't want to see a fellow Cardinals fan sick, but you are at least in a good position to fight it. If you do take a baseball bat, you might want to make sure it isn't signed by Matt Carpenter. They'll just come at you from the left side, and you won't be able to hit them.

I have been cutting back on my online posts but with everything going on I’m at least glad I’m fully vaccinated and the coronavirus seems to be going away. There is the Delta variant I hear about in the news so I will still wear a mask some places I visit but I feel like I have hope and optimism for the first time in years. I credit the Biden administration of course for their response to the pandemic.

Sorry to hear you got sick and I hope you feel better.

The fever breaking was a big help.

Still coughing - A lot, and I lost my sense of smell, but I seem to be on the right path to recover.

On a cough syrup inspired tangent though - I've had to describe my symptoms to a few folks at various agencies and every time I type "Lost my sense of smell", this is what runs through my mind
