select committee, report saysHouse Speaker Nancy Pelosi faced a "wall of screaming" from Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy after nixing two of his selections to serve on the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection, Politico reported on Friday.
The already-frosty relations between Pelosi and McCarthy boiled over into a public battle when Pelosi took the unprecedented step on Wednesday of rejecting two of McCarthy's picks: Rep. Gym Jordan of Ohio and Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana.
"With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee," Pelosi said in a Wednesday statement, allowing McCarthy's other GOP recommendations of Reps. Rodney Davis, Kelly Armstrong, and Troy Nehls to stay.
One source described the ensuing phone conversation between Pelosi and McCarthy as a "wall of screaming" from McCarthy's end while another confirmed there were "raised voices," according to Politico.

(31,131 posts)and in chaos, the killing by the GOP will be massive.
They will kill as many of us as they can while they can.
By the time they take over, illegally or because voters are too stupid to know better, the delta variant will be rampant and between that and just straight up killing, it will be terrible.
If only people had supported Hillary...sigh

(31,131 posts)Elections they lose simply wont be certified if they control the process.
That's it, it is that simple.
And I cant tell you how FURIOUS I get when I make the point of the left trashing Hillary is how we lost than to have someone say otherwise knowing full god damn well how it happened. Not talking to you on this, you didnt say that, others did and I wont respond to them.
People NEVER learn I guess!
Of course putin is partly responsible, the POINT is when you have millions of people on the left trashing her 24-7 for 2 years and another candidate doing that as well, people will turn off to voting.

(16,609 posts)I was not hanging out at DU in 2016. I've had an account here since 2013, according to my profile, but I didn't become active at DU until 2020. In 2016, I was hanging out in a different online political community that was left leaning but aso mostly strongly anti-Hillary. It was awful. These same people who were anti-Hillary also claimed to hate Trump, but they didn't hate him enough to really get behind the only person on the planet who stood between him and the White House.
Nope, they just kept on bashing her all the way up till the election, talking about staying home on Election Day or voting for Jill Stein. Some of them claimed they (reluctantly) voted for her in the end, but I have my doubts. The sad truth is they really did hate Trump, but they hated Hillary almost as much, and their animosity toward her blinded them to just how horrible he was.
Then, as we know, he fucking won, and instead of saying "OMG, I should have supported Hillary," these same people blamed the DNC for nominating her, claiming she lost because she was a "shitty candidate."
So, anyway, I agree with everything you said, and your post really brought the whole thing back to me!

(19,204 posts)We all know MF45 was an illegitimate president. In his heart of hearts MF45 knows it as well. Putin tilted the scales in three states, and that was enough for MF45 to slither in.
Last year we were waiting and watching for Putin's interference, and it didn't materialize. We can plainly see MF45 expected the same "assistance" last year, which is why he made (and is still making) such an adolescent tirade about losing.
Bottom line: no Putin in 2016, no MF45 in the White House. I'll go to my grave believing that.

At that point, they were offered slots with a full disclosure on the right of refusal by the speaker. They chose clowns, they were refused. Not at all unprecedented, but rather predictable imo. She didnt say no to all of them.

I think with quiet Biden, the hissy fit is losing its affect. Instead of fighting its starting to look like tantrums.

(35,807 posts)Simply changing one side of the equation ("I think with quiet Biden" , can do a lot. I doubt that republicans know this, but Biden definitely did.
When I teach interpersonal communication, we tell the students that just if just one member leaves a group, it can change the communication and psychological dynamics of that group. When something like that changes, the entire communication strategy has to be re-evaluated. It's the same with having one party acting like the adults and the other party playing to emotions.
Just yesterday I was observing that their tactics need a makeover. That is why I think McConnell and others came out for mask wearing.
I didn't think about the hissy fits looking like tantrums, but that's exactly what it does.

(11,495 posts)another "trump production" meant to stir things up. McCarthy got his "orders" from trump on who to put on the committee, and he knew Pelosi wouldn't stand for the shit show Jordan would make out of the committee.
It all has to be approved by trump, and any republican that does not fall in line will face the wrath the orange one!

I imagine on the Pelosi side of the phone call there was calm. When you know want you want, and your worth is not defined by the ravings of a lunatic, life is so much calmer.
Seriously, "I'll take all my members and go home," isn't the response of an adult. He knew what he was doing when he nominated the two Jims; he just didn't anticipate Nancy telling him (and by extension Fat Donnie) no.
