The Daily Dread - Tracking the spread, 7/23/21

All times Pacific, source: Johns Hopkins/NBC News

Haven't tracked this in awhile - but since I'm starting to see updated statistics, I was interested in checking the increases.

Today, Friday, 7/23/21
At 11:01am
Confirmed cases US - 34,461,364
Deaths US - 613,635

Yesterday, Thursday, 7/22/21
At 7:48am
Confirmed cases US - 34,386,273
Deaths US - 613,236

Monday, 7/19/21:
At 11:01am
Confirmed cases US - 34,214,472
Deaths US - 612,316

The LAST set of stats - 5/14/21 (while I was still tracking on a regular basis)
At 8:46pm
Confirmed cases US - 33,049,637
Deaths US - 589,142

It's been a long haul. I don't see many of these graphics on display anymore - the last one was on April 17th - almost a full month ago!

I take that to be good news, even though the numbers are worse than ever. At least a lot of us are getting vaccinated.

As of this evening, the vast majority of states have pulled back their mask restrictions. Mask wearing is mandatory only in New Mexico, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts. Some major retailers including Walmart, Target, Home Depot, CVS, and Harris Teeter are still requiring masks in stores.

And as far as vaccinations, 47% of Americans have had at least one shot. And 36% of Americans are fully vaccinated.

------------------

The most recent stats I saw on CNN the count on fully-vaccinated Americans is now 48.8%, as of 10:05am (this morning).
340 million vaccinations administered.
The 7-day average of cases is 43,746, up 65%.

Here are the numbers for states with most new cases between July 15th and 22nd:
Florida (1st place here) - 45,449
California - 43,986
Texas - 32,044
Missouri - 15,455
Louisiana - 15,376

GRANTED, this is "mixing metaphors" here - CNN versus MSNBC - and they present different counts, at random times, by now.

But any way you slice it, it still isn't good. And WE'RE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS BY ANY MEANS!!!
