Sen. Tom Cotton said Friday that the country that incarcerates more people per capita than any other has an "under incarceration problem."
Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, tweeted a clip of himself speaking on Fox News about the increase in crime currently happening in some US cities.
"This is all a result of naive and foolish policies that are letting prisoners out of jail early sometimes because of false claims that we have an over incarceration problem in this country or exaggerated fears about the coronavirus," Cotton said.
He tweeted along with the video: "We're facing a historic crime wave and Democrats are advocating for violent, repeat felons to be let out of jail early."

(2,636 posts)By all means, Senator Cotton, let's lock up all the white, suburban pot heads, and coke and meth users, and all the white collar criminals who defraud the the IRS every year, or embezzle from their businesses, charities, and churches. Let's Lock up the real criminals, rather than just poor people.
We incarcerate more people per capita than any other nation. We deliberately over-incarcerate anyone darker than wet sand, and deliberately let off with a warning the pasty criminals among us.
Tom Cotton is truly a Racist's racist.
Phuck this guy.

We do have un under incarceration problem. Trump and his immediate family are not in prison. GWB is not in prison for his war crimes. Neither is Dick Cheney. So yes we have an under incarceration problem. But the thousands of people of color who are wrongly incarcerated need to be released. So do the many people imprisoned for victimless drug crimes. Our incarceration rate for ordinary people is a disgrace. But lots of people get away with white collar crimes and that needs to stop.

Federally alone, the cruel, greedy bastards still also have slowly dwindling revenue streams from immigrant detention, post-incarcertain transition housing, electronic monitoring, and on and on. To keep them from crashing as they should.

(54,378 posts)Republican members of the US Congress and many state legislatures, as well as corrupt members of law enforcement are woefully under-represented as inmates in our penal system.
I hereby recommend that Senator Cotton, along with Senators Hawley, McConnell, Scott, Rubio, Ernst, Cruz, Inhofe, Cornyn, Kennedy (LA), Grassley, Paul, et al., and about half (or more) of the Republicans in the House, volunteer to save the government time and money by pleading guilty to crimes committed to the proper US attorneys or State Attorneys General, and get our incarcerated population headed in the direction that Cotton is recommending. Certain members of the media, guilty of incitement of various offenses, some with fatal consequences, should join their pals behind bars. One former occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, DC would also qualify, although he has since moved his residence elsewhere.

Plus think of all the kids and other family members that suffer without a mom or dad.
