Do We Need To Counteract The Karen's And Kevin's Out There?......

Here's my thoughts.

I've been seeing many posts here at DU and on the Internet of Karen's and Kevin's throwing fits - in stores, on planes, in the middle of a street - about their rights being infringed upon and that they won't wear masks or get vaxxed.

Is it time that we had some Kathy and Ken posts to counteract the Karen's and Kevin's out there.

Up to now - we've been pretty calm, cool and collected about dealing with Covid and the pandemic. We've made rational arguments as to why we should be masked and why we should get vaxxed. We've tried to reason with people and are now realizing that 'reason isn't working'.

However, everyday, and more so now than ever - we've been running into these dangerous and careless people that say they don't need to wear a mask or they don't need to get vaccinated. They're healthy and they don't want their rights taken away from them or to be dictated to by the government.

They've thrown caution to the wind and they are endangering those of us that are doing what we should be doing to protect ourselves, our kids and grandkids and others from this scourge.

Now I'm beginning to lose my patience. Maybe its time that we have some Kathy's and Ken's on our side that go off on these dangerous and careless people and tell them - in no uncertain terms - and in their own vernacular and style - not being nice to them anymore.

We need to go on tirade's and dish back what they've been dishing out at us that are trying to do the right thing.

About a week ago - I posted here on DU - that we 'tried the carrot and now it's time for the stick'.

Does anyone think I might be on to something here by advocating we post some viral videos on the internet - that counteract the Karen and Kevin - posts out there.

Maybe that's the only way these Karen's and Kevin's will get the message. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

1. If you're not a Karen by disposition you probably aren't inclined to cause a scene.

And so far I haven't run into any of them and I'm not sure how I'd react if I did, since I am deeply disinclined to make a fuss in public. However, I'd like to think I'd step in to defend someone who is incurring the wrath of a Karen.

4. Let Me Give You An Example Of Something I Ran Into The Other Day.....

My significant other told me she ran into one of her son's friends (39y/o) that was flaunting the fact that he was unvaccinated and he was also carrying a fake proof of vaccination card.

I went off on a tirade about that.

Her son has 2 kids - a 3y/o and a 5y/o - that can't be vaccinated as of yet. He also has other friends that have kids all around the same age.

Her son and his friends are getting ready to prepare for 'fantasy football' and will be convening the group.

In my tirade - I said that this unvaccinated jerk shouldn't be invited to participate. Her son should notify all his friends of the fact that one in their group is endangering them. He should tell this person - he can't participate this year and shun him until he gets vaccinated and can show visual proof that he was vaccinated (a picture of him receiving the shot) and not trust a 'proof of vaccination' card.

Much to my surprise - I wound up on the losing end of that - because my significant other said - I should be calm and not get involved.

By this time I was seething and irate. That's when I realized that maybe we should have some Kathy's and Ken's out there that fight fire with fire and tell these dangerous American's that are throwing caution to the wind - in terms and language and in a style that might get through to them.

I vowed that I would stay out of it and not bring up this incident again to my significant other or her son - but asked her to have that discussion with him.

This is where I'm coming from with my post to counteract Karen's and Kevin's out there.

2. Nobody is going to name their baby girls Karen anymore.

Went to a gender reveal last week and turned out we have another granddaughter on the way. We sat around thinking up names. I won’t repeat the comments that were made when the name “Karen” came up. Suffice it to say this child will not be named Karen.

It's the name of a close relative of mine, who is a sweet girl and not at all Karen-like. I'm sure she hopes this use of her name goes away soon.

We all know a Karen somewhere in our lives. It’s not fair to them to be stereotyped with these raging maniacs.

12. It's sad that a person's name was used,

would be better if an acronym or made up word was used instead. The problem is there was already a history of using real names for such phenomena but different names were used each time ('Barbeque Becky', 'Permit Patty') etc. For some reason Karen is the name it settled on, which is unfortunate. I think there was simply a desire to name it and shame it, but it would've been better if an acronym or made up word could've been used.

9. Yeah, me too. Even though the Karen's of the world have begged people to quit

disparaging the name, people just keep on trashing the name, but say something against another person, then we are accused of "shaming them."

11. and Donald. This out and out trashing of people's names has got to go and just proves that it's okay

6. Where's this impression people are tolerating it coming from?

Just because the videos are posted to social media for our amusement and edification doesn't mean it's being tolerated or people are being nice.

The K's are often kicked off flights, out of stores, out of restaurants. The police are often called.

I don't get who's supposedly tolerating it? I haven't seen any tolerance. Most of the videos I see ultimately end in consequences.

If you want to get in someone's face, I suppose you could do. When you get hurt, well, you made your choice. If you get killed because you decided to escalate with some yahoo who has a gun, well again, you made your choice.

I see no benefit to this approach when it has yet to be proven there's a problem where people - especially professionals in charge of various public spaces - have proven time and again more than capable of booting some asses out.

And it ain't just wingers who behave this way. We just had an article posted about how much fun Berkeley restaurants are now. Spoiler - they're not.

Twitter solutions are nice. Real life consequences less so.

7. It is past time to close venues to the unvaccinated

If you choose to not get vaccinate, that is your choice, but you choose at your own peril. You can get the virus but no longer will you be allowed to give it freely to others in society. No vaccine, no entrance, period.
