A staff person who is unvaccinated in a health care center should be required to test every day

period.. Non stop.. 40% if nursing home care workers have not gotten the vaccine for corona virus..they get on TV and whine about their rights and the the state is forcing them to take the vaccine.. Okay you ding dongs.. you do not want to take the vaccine.. the you SHOULD be required to take a covid test every day that you come into work... Your rights end at the tip your nose .. and you do not have the right to put our family members and friends in need of extended care in danger.. simple as that..

2. No. They should not be allowed to work at that facility if they deal with patients and the public,

3. Perhaps a nonvaccinated staffer should NOT be working at a health care center to begin with.

I’d want all such staffers to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of continued employment.

They’re dealing with other people’s health, forcryingoutloud!

and there are shortages of people to take care of the elderly.. okay.. then take a test before they check in every morning.. trust me.. 2 or 3 weeks of a daily covid test and the most recalcitrant of them will be lining up for the vaccine

7. It's A Stick

A smaller stick than launching them from their job.
Axing 40% of staff helps the residents in no way, shape or form.
The one thing I'd add:
If they test positive, the quarantine time is unpaid.
Puts a couple of rough edges on that stick.

8. I might even go so far as to say the cost for said tests will be deducted from their pay

unless they have a reason not to vaccinate that would entitle them to an accommodation. The accommodation would be that they don't have to pay for the testing.

It is still impossible for them to do their job without being tested daily - so they don't escape that, but once there is an accommodation the financial burden for theaccommodation shifts to the employer.

She has had the 2 Moderna shots and is still tested every day at work.

14. Even vaccinated folks still need to be tested now that data is showing

The mRNA vaccines’ efficacy is waning against Delta, only about 40% effective at preventing infection from two very recent sets of data. They’re gonna have to produce reengineered boosters occasionally as these variants pop up, maybe for years or decades to come.

Since many infected vaccinated folks have very mild or no symptoms, it’s almost more important to test them because it’s harder to tell when they are infected if there aren’t many outside indications.

13. Now that vaccine efficacy is waning, especially against Delta

It should probably be all workers tested before each shift. The Israeli data showing 39% efficacy against preventing Delta infection for the Pfizer vaccine was backed up by the miner study I read yesterday that showed 40% effectiveness against Delta for the same vaccine.

Many vaccinated workers will get infected but be asymptomatic as well, so they will not know they are going to work infected and that’s a whole other problem.

We’re gonna need a re-engineered vaccine booster eventually for these variants.

An interesting tidbit from that miner study, all the miners in it that had previously had actual COVID and later were vaccinated had zero breakthrough infections, that’s an interesting piece of data for sure.
