Texas Man, 68, arrested after video captures husky being abandoned on road. dog ok, adopted out

A man has been arrested and charged after a video of a husky being abandoned by a road went viral.

The video was filmed in Horizon City, east of El Paso and close to the Mexican border in southern Texas.

Luis Antonio Campos, 68, was arrested on Friday under suspicion of animal cruelty. He was held in El Paso County Jail before putting up the $5,000 bond that same day, jail logs show.

Luis Antonio Campos, 68, was arrested on Friday under suspicion of animal cruelty. He was held in El Paso County Jail before putting up the $5,000 bond that same day, jail logs show.

Officials said on Friday that at least one other arrest is expected in the case. Mr Campos is accused of being one of at least two people who left the dog on the side of the road on Tuesday.

A younger man can be seen in the video unleashing the dog. The husky then lies down next to the car. The man reenters the car, which drives off, prompting the dog to chase after it. An older man can be seen in the video through the driver side mirror.

The dog was rescued by a volunteer from Pawsitive Rescuers of El Paso and put up for adoption by Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue organization, the El Paso Times reported.

The husky was adopted by Maddie Clappsaddle’s family on Wednesday. They named the about ten-month-old dog Nanook.

I understand having to give a pet away due to illness/ poverty/ death-- there are many heartbreaking circumstances that lead to pets having to be surrendered.

But, there is a group of people in this country that vote "conservative," go to church, and yet are sociopaths that do not give a damn about the suffering of other living beings.

For the record- I have no clue if these guys go to church, how they vote- but, I do know that they could watch an animal chase their car down the road, and keep driving.

I can't tell you how many dogs we took in over the years. Sadly, most dogs who are dumped like that and up dying from being hit by cars, disease or starvation. It's incredibly cruel.

I kept one of them, but the rest I have to take to the shelter.

I wonder if they got the husky as a pup and didn't realize just how high energy those dogs are.

I have a friend with two (!), and they run him absolutely ragged. He adores them, though.

But if you do not exercise them properly and regularly, they will destroy your house.

They're not for the average dog owner.

They need a job. They can't just lie around. They were bred to pull sleds so they have to be run regularly, or pull, or something. They are really country dogs, not for the city. And they do have a rather bad habit of running away if they don't get the exercise they need.

People often have the wrong idea about shelters because of high-kill shelters and the way things used to be done. Many shelters these days make every effort NOT to euthanize animals except in cases of severe illness or serious behavioral problems. I know the one I work with tries every avenue to find rescues or partner shelters to take dogs that are having a hard time finding homes here.

We once had, for some reason, several huskies at one time in our shelter. It was kind of cool when they all decided to howl at once because they don't have the same tone, so it sounds like a weird choir.

and maybe even being asked to give a donation. Nah, just dump it on the side of the road, that's much easier.
