(94,528 posts)(CNN)The Justice Department formally declined to assert executive privilege for potential testimony of at least some witnesses related to the January 6 Capitol attack, a person briefed on the matter said.
The decision paves the way for some former Justice Department officials to testify on what they witnessed in the chaotic days between former President Donald Trump's November election loss and early January when he tried to use the Justice Department and other means to advance false claims that he won.

The mind boggles at what would have happened if these brave officers had not put their lives on the line, and prevailed.

Its clear Trump is culpable, if that was ever in doubt, The hit man analogy was spot on.

(50,269 posts)There were times I had tears in my eyes and times I wished I could scream at every member of Congress who - today - thinks it's a good idea to have a protest supporting the terrorists. Their point at the end is the most important one though: find out what people were behind it. How did they know where Jim Clyburn's nonofficial office was? How did they find Pelosi's office so quickly? Who paid for the airfare and hotel rooms? Were there any paid assassins among the crowd? While a large chunk of the mob was deranged sheep led astray by a false gold, there was also a core of deadly serious, extremely dangerous individuals who were out for blood in the real sense. So much to learn . . .
