The Blue Flower
(5,442 posts)It so aptly described the dread and fear that gripped the country over Vietnam, the struggle for civil rights, and the generational divide. As a teen, I believed it was true--we were on the eve of destruction, and it scared me. But the nation survived the strains and divisions. Life went on. Now in my 70s, I can see again the fracture lines, and it worries me. Looking back, however, gives me hope that what's actually happening is another evolution for this country. I know it's painful, and there's more pain ahead, but if we don't surrender or retreat from our own responsibility to the future, we'll be okay. Maybe even better.

(21,337 posts)and yes it was very scary. My cousin came back with MS symptoms from Agent Orange and spent 45 years in a wheel chair. I only missed Nam because I was in a bad car wreck.
I believe it is scarier today. We have Fox News and other outlets. The Republican party has become the Qanon party, a much more sinister and evil group of people. The dark side has come out of the shadows and openly advocates racism, xenophobia, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and yes openly advocates anti-democracy, and their cult cheers.
The other side is much more evil today.
