Two years ago, while helping a friend cut down a tree, he fell off of a ladder and injured his spine, paralyzing him from the chest down. He was her biggest booster and refused to allow the awful event to interfere with her gymnastics schedule/work.

8. All that happened a day or two before she left for her first US Championships at age 16

He encouraged her to still attend. She finished 2nd all-around to Biles and won gold in uneven bars. She was named to the 2019 Worlds team. Came back from there with team gold, floor exercise silver, and uneven bars bronze.

it looks better than being there. All relaxed, family and friends. So many to celebrate with, and no hotel. So great to see so many thrilled people behind these athletes and their quest to be the best.
