UK scientists believe it is 'almost certain' a coronavirus variant will emerge

UK scientists believe it is 'almost certain' a coronavirus variant will emerge that beats current vaccines

By Mick Krever, CNN 19 hrs ago

An analysis by British academics, published by the UK Government's official scientific advisory group, says that they believe it is "almost certain" that a SARS-Cov-2 variant will emerge that "leads to current vaccine failure." SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes Covid-19.

The analysis has not been peer-reviewed, the early research is theoretical, and does not provide any proof that such a variant is in circulation now. Documents like it are released "as pre-print publications that have provided the government with rapid evidence during an emergency."

The paper is dated July 26, and was published by the British government on Friday.

The scientists write that because eradication of the virus is "unlikely," they have "high confidence" that variants will continue to emerge. They say it is "almost certain" that there will be "a gradual or punctuated accumulation of antigenic variation that eventually leads to current vaccine failure."

It took them over a month to consider Delta a VOC, while the WHO and other Countries already had.

I understand the CDC skepticism, but a CDC or agency in the 45ii administration is different than the current CDC.

We hope. 😜

on in 2019 that included worse case scenarios, including having to declare state of emergency, close the borders, delay/cancel elections etc

he would have liked that and it is clear that his golfing buddy and neighbor and fellow putin tool limbaugh would not have called it a hoax if trump did not want him to. there is a pic of them having lunch around christmas 2019 looking very concerned about something.

limbaugh's first public on air reaction as leader of the dittohead nation that made trump poossible was to point out it was a hoax from the left to force big govt solutions (communism!) and he had already in 2014 used fear of ebola to rally the anti-immigrant base to get the GOP 9 senate seats (ebola was the oct surprise). of course they would use it again and a transcription of the limbaugh shows related to the 2019 ebola outbreak would show they were already using it to push for border walls..... unfortunately for trump/limbaugh scientists got that under control, despite efforts by social media trolls in some country (russia?) to get locals to attack clinics, kill medical staff. surely that has been checked into? well, possibly no, because despite voice of america being used to 'spread democracy' vs USSR for decades RW radio (1500 previously limbaugh dumb-coordinated radio stations - which is why the GOP iss such a mess now) is still completely ignored by dems, progressives, media and political analysts, etc.

if this virus had pandemic written all over it wouldn't VOC classification have to go through trump appointees first?

dems have plate full but they, and media, have to investigate as if these sex on the wrong brain dumbfucks know nothing about evolving viruses (and still don't) and just wanted to use it like they did ebola in 2014 (at the time trump actually used ebola to attack obama) - because maybe he played golf or talked with limbaugh the day before?

The world is a collection of local populations of all types of organisms, invisible up to the largest on earth. Their variability protect them, locally because of known adversaries, from outsiders because of genetic strength. Human activity and mobility have greatly reduced our local advantages, and intermixed our populations. I'm no scientist, but has it created universal vulnerability to super pathogens? I don't know enough to create a counter argument.

expertise in continuously creating new vaccines and boosters. In the meantime, I wish something could be done with the ignorant anti-maskers.
This is a scary existential threat that too many are trying to dismiss.

Wishing all our health care professionals the best luck. Where the hell would society be without them?!

Take care, my friend.
