Is that loyalty only goes one way and that Trump would dump them in a heartbeat and could care less about them
they know this and still continue to worship him...this is just another example

(21,106 posts)What was in it for his followers? Here is one answer that also may answer why TFG's cult members follow him.
He had this an uncanny ability to manipulate, because he could become whoever those people that he met needed. He had an uncanny ability to read people.

(3,495 posts)Here are a couple of examples.
TFG said nothing to worry about COVID, it's over blown, it will disappear, et cetera. Basically, don't do anything. When he got it, he got the finest care the country could offer and then drove around to see people in a limo (exposing how many others to COVID). Compare that to most of his supporters who were lucky if their local health care system had any ICU beds.
TFG got his vaccine on the low down. Won't encourage any of his followers to get vaccinated. Results, they are getting sick and taxing the healthcare system (probably in Democratic leaning areas that actually have the infrastructure to care for them).
TFG encouraged his followers to raise hell on January 6th. They did. Some of them died assaulting Congress, many were eventually arrested and face crippling legal bills, significant jail time and an arrest record that will haunt their future job prospects. TFG was impeached but let off by Senate lackeys for the good of the party.
TFG asked for donation from his followers to help him "fight" his opponents. Set up web sites with automatic monthly deductions then sits on literally hundreds of millions of their dollars, most of which will be obscurely spent (enriching his and his children's businesses).
I probably missed a couple but the MAGA followers will continue to love TFG even as he screws them even more.

(15,210 posts)Some just play the part to get in on the grift and the connection to power. They know exactly who and what Trump is, and would turn on him just as easily.
Of course, some really do worship the ground Trump walks on, and that's a lot harder to understand. To the extent that people say Trump has a kind of charisma, and a talent for appearing to different people as those people want him to appear, I'd have to guess that that's probably true... but with the caveat that Trump's so-called "charms" only work on certain kinds of people: gullible people, people who share his grievances and prejudices, people who mistake callousness and self-serving ambition for "strength".
