How should the Select Committee handle the problem if all the Republicons ignore subpoenas?

Could they charge each of them with contempt? If they resisted further, could they be fined or arrested by US Marshals?

This appears to be the direction they are headed? Republicons are getting their marching orders to ignore any and all subpoenas. Will they all follow the Pied Piper?

Should they send subpoenas en masse to each of the 135 Congressmen that refused to vote to certify Joe Biden as President? Just to see if they are all marching together?

Or perhaps, if they know they are going to ignore the subpoenas, just send a nice letter and appeal to their patriotism? Maybe send some chocolates?

Or perhaps they should send out the subpoenas and then take it to court if they refused? Get it resolved as quickly as possible.

Or perhaps, first of all, bring in all voluntary witnesses possible. Get all the information possible before charging anyone with contempt. Just let them simmer in their juices while the Committee goes about their business?

Would the Courts take such a case, that is portrayed as nothing more than a dispute between political Parties?

It is not a simple solution.

They don't believe the Democrats will challenge them to the extent needed to get to the truth.

We shall see. What will be the role of the DOJ?

NONE of them are going to appear willingly.

Unless the penalty is SEVERE, it's going to be a complete waste of time sending them subpoenas.

Which means, if it goes far enough, the Sgt at Arms could arrest them and toss them in the capitol jail.

To avoid that, they couldn't vote.

Heh.

Frankly, I think they should be offered a choice between hanging and firing squad.

And no sarcasm thingy.

I am fed up with these Republican traitors. They supported--and continue to support--an attempted coup. Throw the book at them.

yes, Congressional Republicans will definitely fight them, but there are avenues that I think will put pressure on them as the information is made public.

They can go to the Jan. 6th gathering at the Ellipse, who organized it, who funded it, who made the decisions to invite Jr., Rudy, Mike Flynn, Roger Stone, etc. and what was the ultimate purpose.

What role did groups like the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, Three Percenters play and were they paid to be there, and who paid them?

At some point, someone within the White House or in Congress will have their name connected with it. Once that happens, public outcry and political pressure will make their reluctance to testify will make them look like their hiding something.

So instead of trying to crack the core from the beginning, wear down the periphery so when you do get to the core, there's not much of a defense left.

Sounds like a good plan.

Rudy had to be involved. I would not be surprised if they don't find evidence on his phones and emails they got when they raided his office and apt? (That may be why Trump is putting distance between himself and Rudy right now?)

In the meantime, they could look for Congressmen or Senators that might be willing to testify without subpoena?

That they will *ignore* the subpoenas is too easy a bet to be even on the board, so, I'll put it at 10:1 that Republicans have an actual press conference where they ritualistically light these subpoenas on fire.

The House Select Committee on 1/6 will send subpoenas soon. Those on the receiving end *should* include Mark Meadows, Bill Barr, Jeff Rosen, Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy, Andy Biggs, Mo Brooks, Paul Gosar, plus anyone who gave a tour before the insurrection, and of course, Trump.

Friends, let me take you back to 2019 when in the @latimesopinion
(and with @page88) I talked about *exactly* what Congress would have to do to enforce subpoenas. Of course, Congress didn't do this, so McGahn testified a few weeks ago, which was useless.

These people are well known liars.

The select committee would better spend their time finding witnesses who can incriminate them.
