Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsShould Nancy ask for a couple of more Republican volunteers to join Cheney and Kinzinger?
On the Select Committee?
Are there still a couple of Republicans that are independent from the conspiracy adopted by most of their Party?
What harm could it do?
I think it could only help the credibility of the Committee.

(22,037 posts)I'm not sure there are one or two other Republicans who would buck their party to join that committee.

Nancy went out of her way to appoint two Republicans, and thanks to her, the GOP is represented on that Committee, which they otherwise wouldn't. Her decision was generous enough, and appointing two more, while likely harmless, would be four too many and wouldn't change the dynamics in conducting the Committee's business one bit.

(111,095 posts)I thought she had only asked Cheney and Kinzinger to join? She gave McCarthy the opportunity to choose five but he chose to withdraw all of his picks.

and presented her with 5 of his worst, including 3 who voted against impeaching Trump after the insurrection and I can't remember what-all else. Jim Jordan was on the list, and publicly made it plain he would use the committee as a platform for his clown-show.
As a result, she outright refused 2 of them, at which point McCarthy took all 5 away and was nasty about it.
But it is a fact that Pelosi reserved 5 spaces for Republicans from the very beginning, and she didnt have to. I don't think she intends to make any more offers to them at this point and I dont think she should. They hold the process in contempt,

And yet they will not. Only 2 have shown the guts to step up: Cheney and Kinsinger.

(115,693 posts)It's pretty obvious that only Cheney and Kinzinger have enough guts to stand up to the GOP's blackballing of anyone who would defy the wishes of Agent Orange.

(111,095 posts)..they could very easily contact the Speaker and she could decide if they were sincere and honest in their desire to defend their country and Constitution?
No one should have to ask them. They should volunteer if they wish to help save our democracy?

That way he and tfg could call it a partisan witch hunt.

(111,095 posts)The Committee is all that the people have left between justice and corruption, between the truth and the lies. Without the Committee, there will be a massive cover-up by the complicit Republicans that do not want the people to know the truth.

(18,123 posts)There are several who would be objective: Anthony Gonzalez, Fred Upton, Peter Meijer, John Katko, etc. I don't know if they've been asked or if they'd be willing to serve. But it would look better in the long run to have more Republicans on the committee. It would look less like a partisan witch hunt (note: I don't think it is, I just want the average American to know that a bi-partisan committee found that Trump was guilty and should serve the rest of his life in Leavenworth).

They want it all
