(42,862 posts)... honestly, I've run out of patience (and sympathy) for the willingly unvaccinated. Fuck 'em. They are "surplus population".

(8,387 posts)Pre-existing conditions, didn't take vitamin Hydroxymectin (or took it in the wrong dose at the wrong time), not really a Christian... there's a whole roster of reasons why it is either fake or of no concern.
But, hey, it's CNN, so it's all just "fake news" to these shitheads.

(42,410 posts)we've got a lot of them here. I've run out of patience too. I have sympathy for the medical staff that has to care for them.

(42,410 posts)I do not blame them. After everything they did last year to keep people alive, these selfish dirtbags are expecting care and taking no responsibility for themselves.

(822 posts)I mean, I genuinely feel for the guy and his family. That's a tough video to watch. OTOH, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that there's a small (in more than way) part of me that doesn't want just slap him. I can't imagine being so caught up in politics that I put my family and their lives and health at risk just to "win" some friggin' argument.
Still, I hope his family and even he regain their health.

(18,486 posts)He was just really apathetic and didn't think getting a vaccine was a big priority.

(19,204 posts)So before people see this and say, well he's heavy, sure, he is, but so are 3 in 4 of everyone else.
Republicans refuse to learn something unless it affects them, so this video won't convince any of them.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)It turns out he wasn't an anti-vaxxer - he just didn't make a priority of getting vaccinated. I think a lot of people are like this.

(27,843 posts)There is a whole subset of the unvaccinated who just haven't gotten around to it, but aren't anti-vax. I think efforts to reach them and get them vaccinated should be a priority at the moment.
Deminpenn
(15,290 posts)For one reason or another, they just haven't gotten around to being vaccinated.

(8,387 posts)"That's not a real hospital room. You can tell by the (fuzzy blowup of some obscure feature) that proves it is just a fake set for TV."
People really underestimate the in-depth defense mechanisms of truthers.
People who swallow dumb shit like covid denial, flat earthism, 9/11 "no planers" and so on, are simply not moved by things like this. In fact, efforts to dissuade them have the opposite effect -
"Aha! They are arguing with me! They must be threatened by the unassailable logic of my tots and pears!"

(1,910 posts)From the very beginning their have been 2 risk factors that leap out....being elderly and being overweight. The statistics are off the charts, weight is a huge risk factor of a serious issue with Covid.
Every single one of these confessionals, the poor people are battling obesity.
For goodness sake, common sense....being unvaccinated and young and fit is stupid.....being unvaccinated and obese is absolute insanity.

(33,643 posts)being lazy, even ... then I still have a measure of sympathy.
People who obviously and actively went round talking bullshit about the vaccine or C19, spewing conspiracies or bashing scientists, or touting snake-oil crap ... those are the ones I have no sympathy for.
Listening to this story is a bit heartbreaking actually.

(82,849 posts)But I doubt too many folks who have already reached their conclusion about not getting vaccinated are going to take in this new information. They've made their decision, and they're not going to change their minds until it's too late. Then they'll try to warn the others in their tribe, but they'll run into the exact same problem.

(19,204 posts)You wouldn't listen to us when we pleaded with you to get the vaccine and to use the COVID protocols.
I'm not going to listen to you wheeze and cry now that you have the disease. I'm going to listen to some music, or maybe read some peer reviewed scientific reports about COVID.
Best of luck to you, but you were warned.

Saw a story on the news last night about a mom and dad changing their tune after their daughter nearly died from it.
This is NOT the way to own the libs or anybody else. Morons (sorry, but Ive been fresh out of sympathy for a good while).
If this makes somebody out there think twice, then good. But as we all know, it cant happen to them.

I have little sympathy for loud-mouthed anti-vaxxers and Republican shitheads trying to politicize this tragedy, but in this case, it's just a truly sad story.

(1,351 posts)I used to live in Indiana and I know people like this. There are people who never leave their small towns except for trips to Disney World or whatever. They live in a bubble. I don't want to call these people "ignorant" because it's not that they are stupid, but they have a very narrow view of the world based on their isolation and are easily misled. (Yes, I know there is the internet but that is no substitution for getting out there and seeing with your own eyes how the real world is).
I have empathy for people like this man as they are the easy pawns for the cons. The people I will never have empathy for are those people who know better but are cashing in on ignorance by stoking the flames. People like the Fox News, OAN anchors. The Ted Cruz's, Rand Paul's, etc. These people know what they are saying are lies and they don't give a rat's ass if it means they'll have more viewers, voters, whatever it is they are coveting.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)They aren't political and aren't trying to prove a point. They just don't think that getting the vaccine is that urgent but plan to get it at some point. Unfortunately, for some of them, it's too late.
I blame the loud-mouthed anti-vaxxers and political opportunists for clouding the message and sowing confusion that results in people like this man not taking the vaccine as seriously as he should have.

(1,351 posts)My sister lives in a very small town in Indiana. She has a neighbor who is unvaccinated because she is "waiting to see if there are any long term side effects". How much longer is she going to wait??? This woman is married with two kids, 11 and 13. She initially stated she was waiting to see if masks were going to be worn in school before vaccinating her 13-year-old. If they weren't going to be worn she was going to have her 13-year old vaccinated. Well, it was announced that masks aren't going to be worn and her 13-year old is STILL not vaccinated.
My sister is going to try again today to convince this woman to have her whole family vaccinated (except 11 year who can't due to the age limit). She is going to mention to her that in the history of vaccines, if long-term effects were going to occur they would happen in the first 6 weeks.
