Moderna says its Covid vaccine booster produced 'robust' immune response against delta

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/05/moderna-covid-vaccine-booster-produces-robust-response-against-delta.html

Moderna said its Covid-19 vaccine booster shot produced a “robust” antibody response against the highly contagious delta variant, according to details of a study released Thursday with the company’s second-quarter earnings report.

In a phase two trial, Moderna is testing a 50-microgram dose of three vaccine booster candidates in previously vaccinated individuals. The booster shots produced a promising immune response against three variants, including delta, with antibody levels approaching those seen in previously unvaccinated people who received two 100-microgram doses, the company said.

The data has been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication, it said.

So many folks who want to be vaxxed in other countries have been unable to and we are talking about boosters. Just seems wrong...

So there really isn't an excuse to not plow ahead with boosters.

In many countries, this "booster" might actually become the first shot. That would make sense to me.

https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2021/07/08/joint-cdc-and-fda-statement-vaccine-boosters.html

Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster shot at this time. FDA, CDC, and NIH are engaged in a science-based, rigorous process to consider whether or when a booster might be necessary. This process takes into account laboratory data, clinical trial data, and cohort data – which can include data from specific pharmaceutical companies, but does not rely on those data exclusively. We continue to review any new data as it becomes available and will keep the public informed. We are prepared for booster doses if and when the science demonstrates that they are needed.

I will be following their advice, before I follow Big Pharma.

We need to have a plan for the next variants (possibly Lambda) which totally ignore the current vaccines.

Boosters (really, updates) are inevitable.

We need to get lower income countries vaccinations up before boosters is all they are saying.
The US has committed a lot already, but all wealthy countries need to do more.

I wonder if it matters which type of vaccine the person originally got? Like will it be more effective if the person got a mRNA vaccine originally or the J&J vaccine?

Probably safe to stick with the original manufacturer until then... which may never happen, but who knows....

While she was still relatively ambulatory and spoke of such things, she told me ‘imagine not being able to catch your breath no matter how hard you tried’. Not fun.

"Moderna is testing a 50-microgram dose of three vaccine booster candidates in previously vaccinated individuals. "

I got the 50 mg part.

What does "3 vaccine booster candidates" mean?

3 different candidates? All contain 50 micrograms..whats the difference?

Is the problem with those that have breakthrough cases that they didn’t produce adequate antibodies?
I had my shots in April, if I go to Kroger and get an antibody test, can I tell if I’m vulnerable to a breakthrough case?
