They've hung in there through so much. We were just barely ........ barely able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Some of them have not hugged their own family for 18 months. The toll on their mental and physical health has got to be horrendous.
Now we have the pandemic of the unvaxxed. A lot of stupid. And the nurses and doctors are still hanging in there. Giving good care even as their patient insists this can't be Covid it's a hoax.
Among the dying now are little children too young for the vax and older children who have idiotic parents.
In my neck of the woods it is not too bad yet, but they know it's coming. A young nurse friend has already laid in supplies at home and made all the arrangements so if it comes to it again her family will manage without her for a few months while she moves in with a nurse friend that lives alone.
The worst is she knows in her lifetime it's likely another one of these will come. She'll tough out this one as long as she can, but she's already considering leaving anything related to patient care.
What will we do when enough of them leave? Who will be there for the broken legs and heart attacks?

(36,745 posts)All willfully unvaccinated should not be admitted. They should go to field hospitals with a cot and MREs provided.

(66,328 posts)But I am considering switching to a less-stressful sphere of medicine.
I'm tired all the time. I have headaches that keep me awake at night and make the exhaustion worse. I'm starting not to care whether or not I do a good job as a medical provider, and that can't be good for anyone...
People, please, just wear your masks, wash your hands, and get the vaccine...

(83,751 posts)She went on a rant:
You have a stoke, need critical care...we don't have beds. Your child is in a car accident, needs critical care...we don't have beds. She went on and it was heartbreaking to watch.
My niece is an ICU nurse, last year was the worst without PPE and three floors dedicated to COVID patients. Last I spoke to her, they were down to one patient...it is going to get bad again.

(15,084 posts)It has been postponed indefinitely because the hospital is slammed with Covid patients.
Our county is only 46% vaccinated. Kind of a purple area, but lots of New Age Naturopath type anti-vaxxers.
Damn.

(83,751 posts)My sister had hers postponed last year for COVID. Finally took her. They are a specialty hospital and have no COVID patients.
Hang in there my dear.
