'If We Don’t Have Rules We Have Anarchy’: Southwest Pilot Asks Passengers to Please Just Wear the Mask
‘It’s a rule. It’s not a political statement. It’s not me taking your rights away. It’s not me asserting my will on you.’

This reminder for us all to behave ourselves during air travel comes courtesy of a Southwest Airlines pilot who must be as sick as anybody of unruly passengers disrupting flights over airlines’ mask rules.

This guy’s good. He’s got jokes. He’s got wisdom. And he’s got the authority that comes with wearing “polyester pants and a short sleeve dress shirt” and keeping a 300-ton aircraft in the sky. We should listen to him. ........(more)

That was a cool vid, but no 737 weighs anything close to 600,000 pounds.

Not if it’s going to fly, anyway.

a round of applause after his informative speech. I've heard airline passengers applaud for much less.

"I love my crew more than you." I was an airline ticket agent for ten years, and I can tell you that the sense of family in the airline industry is powerful. It was especially strong with your own airline, very nearly as strong with whatever other airlines you had at your airport (I was in DCA, lots of airlines) but also very strong with other airlines in other places. We took care of each other. To this day, whenever I am flying, I let everyone know I'm a former airline employee. I want them to know I'm more or less one of them, and that they don't need to worry about me. I'll behave. I'll do what little I can do to help them out.

Thank you for posting this.

These senior pilots need to start speaking out more at the beginning of the flight. If passengers don't want to follow the rules, they need to leave the aircraft.
