Judge has ordered US Capitol Insurrection defendant Dan Caldwell of Texas held in jail, until trial.
First of all.. this photo. (Feds say that's Caldwell attacking several officers w/ chemical spray)
...
The feds say US Capitol riot defendant Daniel Caldwell has a history of violence and isn't safe to release.
They cite a domestic violence incident, in which he's accused of slamming his wife into a table and yanking the phone from the wall, when she tried to call 9-1-1
...
Oh... and prosecutors say Caldwell grew violent during a DUI stop in 2013.
They say when officers tried to draw blood, Caldwell needed to be restrained and taken to hospital for the test
At the hospital, feds say Caldwell fought so hard he *broke* the hospital bed

(8,351 posts)Hopefully a judge will do the right thing and put him in jail for a long time after conviction.
Its time these people face the appropriate time for the crime they committed.

ONE WAY TRIP. This is my FANTASY.
They can never hurt the world again.

(5,507 posts)We need the moon for science and future solar system exploration.
I would suggest a better destination would be Venus.....or Mercury.

(7,286 posts)Speaking for myself, every report where an insurrectionists who are brought up on charges, are not released while awaiting trial.
Most seem to have been released.
I couldn't make out which judge/court but I'm very glad to see the outcome of this hearing.

(4,787 posts)In 1984, she was appointed as Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by Reagan. In 1997, she was elevated to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by Clinton.
According to the docket for the case, Caldwell's attorney filed a motion to withdraw from the case on Friday past. It was denied, but it appears the reason was technical in nature (failure to give proper notice to various parties), so he can apply again. (No reason was revealed for the request.) Curiously, he is an attorney from Texas (where the defendant is from) who entered the case in late March.

(7,286 posts)I'm glad it was the Superior Court in DC.
It seems like a number of related cases heard in Texas were treated like nothing burgers. I recall hearing a few initial cases following initial arrests were released on their arraignments, for incredibly privileged and frivolous reasons. Certainly gave the appearance of Judges sympathetic to insurrectionists.
One judge in San Diego released or dismissed (can't remember which action now) a case against an insurrectionists which involved automatic assault weapons charges. The Judge reasoned that an assault weapon is no more dangerous than a jack knife.
