Because the Trumps wanted to use the White House for the Republican National Convention in 2020, they made significant changes to the legendary Rose Garden.
At the time of the change, presidential historian Michael Bechloss insulted Melania Trump's work by posting some of the photos of the garden throughout the years. Upon the anniversary of the project, Bechloss posted another photo showing the rows of simplistic box hedges and low-profile shrubbery.
"[Beschloss] has proven his ignorance by showing a picture of the Rose Garden in its infancy," the Twitter account linked to the "Office of Melania Trump" said on Sunday. The account shared a photo that some said was taken from a vantage point that neglected to show how the cherry blossom and crab apple trees were removed.

That sounds suspiciously like something Donny would say. Isn't this circumventing a ban?

(100,068 posts)I seriously think it's Trump, though someone else might be writing them for him, which might explain why there's few typos or grammatical errors. I notice that the account joined after Trump got banned from Twitter.
After browsing, it pretty much posts their crap and retweets stuff from pro-Trump accounts like America First Policy Institute.
I flagged @Twittersupport, I wonder if they will respond.

(37,160 posts)There's no part of that wording that says "Donald", though the thin-skinned condescension might indicate he gave directions.
More likely Melania directed a flunky to write it. She's as thin-skinned as her husband.

It really hit me hard. The daily onslaught of evil during the former map administration was numbing and horrifying, but the total destruction of a classic and historic American Garden was just incredibly sad for me.
The landscape architects and civil engineers who worked on the plans for the deconstruction and destruction of the Rose Garden should be ashamed of their role.

(61,599 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was handed to the WH landscape architects fully specced. I doubt Melania was even involved beyond being a figurehead.
The plan is sterile and ugly but it's more than that. It looks like authoritarian architecture. It's meant to dehumanize.

(12,650 posts)I guess she can claim these are "People's Roses" that anyone can get and make a copy of the WH Rose Garden themselves with.
I'd have liked to see it updated with more Heritage types of Roses - Tuscany, Centrafloras, tiny Cecil Brunners with their terrific citrus rose scent that make wonderful buttoneers...maybe a couple Cherokee roses tossed in? Maybe with some more native flowers and herb for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators in the layout? And lots of colorful bulbs and perennials - pinks, marigolds (pest control), and carnations, then maybe some mums for fall?
Of course, a heritage Rose garden like that takes years to establish.
Not like just using pink and white landscaping roses with some stocks thrown in for a bit of color between the boxwood.

(61,599 posts)That's a violation of federal law. The design of the garden is a matter of opinion, but violation of federal laws is a big deal.
