Houston: LBJ Hospital putting up tents for COVID-19 overflow patients, officials say

A mask mandate could have prevented this.

HOUSTON — Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital has started to put up tents on its campus for COVID-19 overflow patients, according to Harris Health System.

Snip

We're told the tent is currently empty as the hospital searches for medical staff to operate it. It's still unclear if or when that will happen, officials said.

We are not talking about a crisis a week 10 days, 14 days from now. We are in a crisis mode today," President and CEO of Harris Health System Esmaeil Porsa said last week.

Porsa said the system doesn't have enough staff to deal with the increase in COVID patients along with the normal ER patients.

Texas is in deep trouble. We have a truly severe shortage of medical workers right now.

to death from a failing health industry that can't keep up with those infected because of bad state policies...Texas is really revving up to be the number one shithole state in the nation.

You could smell it coming…like bad Sitler fart from Austin.

No staff means you lie on the cot and wait for your fate.

Facing a crush of COVID-19 patients, ICUs are completely full in at least 50 Texas hospitals.

Across Texas, hospital intensive care units are being battered as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in a post-holiday surge. Dozens of facilities have reported that their ICUs have been at or above 100% capacity for weeks, leaving staff overworked and stretched thin.

More than 50 Texas hospitals are currently reporting that their ICUs are 100% full or higher, and a dozen of them have been full for more than half of the 24 weeks since hospitals began reporting that information in July, according to a Texas Tribune analysis of data released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Abbot is assuming this surge will also pass and not enough of his voters will be impacted to hurt him too much in 2022. He's being appose in the primaries by even more hard right candidates, so he's all in on letting people die to appear pro "freedom" for the nutters.

Scary part is, he's probably not wrong.
