Republicans generally oppose and Democrats will only support half-measures at best.

and I live in the real blue northeast. If Republicans don't want to make money, that's fine. They won't get subsidized by the government, so who will pay their help? Not them, that's for sure. Humans adapt. Maybe not Republicans, but humans do.

I ran to the store to grab milk. It's 99 degrees here right now, and I was thinking we'll probably be happy to have a temp that LOW in the not that distant future.

Terrifying!

summers would get in the 90s on a handful of days. Most often, it was in the 70s and 80s. Now we’re getting over a dozen days over 100. This is in western Oregon. By now, there should be no deniers. This is no fantasy. The heat is relentless. And guess what? NO ONE in any government is willing to do ANYTHING about it. Why? Greed and self-interest. But there’s a problem. Capitalism means nothing on an uninhabitable planet.

Eventually, if not now, almost all countries will suffer adverse net effects from drought, floods and storms. Canada for instance is warming more than pretty much any northern country and the effects are being felt from severe drought in the west to flooding & storms in the east and melting permafrost in the north.

I'd like to hear how any of the three you mentioned will be "winners".

I'll look for the cite, I think it was in a book I read or maybe one of the "Green News" websites I follow...

But it's simple. Climate change makes more hectares "useful" in China, Russia and Canada than there are today.

Of course it will be temporary.

Did you know that as climate changes, there will actually be a plateau period because of new forest growth? Of course after that, it's 100% downhill.

Look at the predicted precipitation changes on the planet. It benefits areas of Canada, China and Russia. The planets largest agricultural zones will be in... Canada, China and Russia.

Russia has an entire "USA" worth of taiga. Go to Google maps and take a look at it. Dead flat, not a tree for 100 miles and sparse grass. Ever wondered WHY that is so? Wonder what factors would turn the Taiga into forests and farmland? Think about it.

Water, food, living space and (more) tolerable temperatures will be commodities in the years to come.

Canada, China and Russia will have all 3.

or the 1% that own luxury liner condos. Or the powerful like George W. Bush who own South American aquifers.

The Disaster Capitalists have it all mapped out: how to profit from climate change and permanently rule the world.

They are not unprepared.

They believe that THEY will be fine and the world will crumble around them and their precious "property".

The joke is on them because you cannot buy enough security to prevent desperate people from raiding and pillaging the outposts they believe would be safe (like New Zealand disaster camps or private property in a Mad Max-like USA).

Climate change does not care if you have "money" - money is a made-up concept anyway. Climate change cares about physics and chemistry and biology and microbiology. In the end, Earth will heal and as a veritable tabla rasa for evolution to reboot from. Single celled bacteria (prokaryotes) to Multi-celled bacteria (eukaryotes) and on and on for another few billion years (provided the planet survives meteor and cometary impacts, solar flares, volcanic eruptions of super-volcanoes like Yellowstone and more).

Greed and a lack of empathy for the less privileged in our dysfunctional and inequitable world has put us on the precipice of disaster along with everything else alive that is bigger than a fruit fly (maybe them too). Life will go on, it will just do so without continued idiocy from Homo Sapiens.

99.9% of EVERY species to EVER exist is already extinct, we just weren't smart enough to figure out collective strategies to save ourselves when we were the first (known) species to have that chance on this planet. Maybe the roach kings of the future will be better than us...

My husband was laughed at by his branch head (R) back in 2000 when he suggested NASA begin working on controllable atmospheric sunshades to shield the planet.
In another 21yrs we will be very desperate.

Wonder if party leadership is willing to stand alongside the younger generation as they push for efforts to mitigate the worst effects of climate change? Or will they not care, because they know they won't be the generation that has to live with the consequences?

Climate change is just one result of the spread of this pixilated ignorance.
