So I'm in Northern Virginia (Arlington/Falls Church/Fairfax County Area) and the storms just rolled through...knocked out our power again. There are huge trees down all around our area, including one that's blocking our street.
I hope Dominion will be able to get the power back on relatively soon. Last time (week before last) it was out for almost 18 hours.
Anyone else in NOVA without power?
Edited to add: our power is still out, and the earliest Dominion is saying we might be restored is 7:00 tonight. Theyre working on a lot of outages in our area, but its miserably hot and humid today. At least the basement is still relatively cool.

(65,324 posts)Some areas NW of Chicago got 5" of rain.
17 tornados confirmed but only a couple touched down.
Affected a huge area, from the Wisconsin state line to south of us (we're 60 or so miles south of Chicago), from I-39 to NW Indiana.
Fortunately, the most damaging stuff hit in rural areas so the damage was minimized.
We didn't lose power but parts of McHenry, Boone, Bureau, McHenry, Lake, DuPage, LaSalle, & Will did.
I read everything was back on by around 9 this morning.
Crossing fingers on your power. We once went 6 days running a generator. I pricey way to keep the lights on!

(5,940 posts)But there's a huge limb across our subdivision's entrance, and a large tree across the street right behind us.
No generator...our power has been too reliable, usually. Last week's outage was about 18 hours, but I think this one will be longer. Glad there's food in the fridge, and of course booze.
Work tomorrow may have to wait.

(5,940 posts)But at least the power company is finally working on it.
Sigh.

(65,324 posts)Hopefully, since they're on it, only another day or so.

Have a great evening!

(65,324 posts)Glad to hear it.
The 2 fridges & freezer are the highest priority for the generator.
I don't have the house wired for it.
I harnessed together a bundle of heavy duty ext. cords.
Only takes about 8 minutes to get those, the cable/internet, and three room powered up.
Having no TV or internet would drive my wife & I nuts.

(57,697 posts)I was just about to head out to Annandale this afternoon to get some shopping done. I missed by first bus, and it was too hot to wait for another. As I was headed back home, the sky starting getting that look that we would be getting rain.
There used to be a Kmart right around the corner from the Giant where bottomofthehill is. I was headed to where the Kmart used to be in Annandale, on John Marr Drive.
