Mississippi, with one of the highest new Covid-19 case rates and lowest rates of vaccinated people in the U.S., is encouraging booster doses for some high-risk groups.
The Mississippi State Department of Health is now advising that doctors consider a booster or third dose of a Covid-19 vaccine for people with weakened immune systems, including organ transplant patients and people taking immunosuppressive medications.
We have provided guidance to providers and physicians throughout the state to assess their patients who may be immunocompromised to administer a third dose, Dr. Paul Byers, a physician with the State Department of Health said during a news briefing Wednesday. If individuals are concerned they fall into those categories, we recommend they speak to their primary care physician to determine the need for a booster vaccine.

A doctor was on MSNBC before Morning Joe and said there's no proof we need boosters and we don't know if they're safe etc. but Israel is currently boostering their seniors with encouraging results and the UK and Germany have approved boosters for their countries.

(14,971 posts)Unfortunately, there are too many people like that in this country. I hope she wears a mask and stays safe.
I have a cousin who lives in Houston. Her and her husband are refusing to get vaccinated because 'the FDA hasn't approved it yet". They are college educated and her husband is an engineer. Both extremely intelligent. I just talked to her father, my uncle, a couple days ago (who's fully vaccinated) and he's worried sick about it. I felt so bad for him. I feel like it's basically a selfish act.
My uncle said they got involved with an evangelical church when they moved to Houston and are influenced by that community. I feel your pain. At least, she masks up.

(9,696 posts)Not just talking about your family members, but the whole crowd of people who are using the FDA excuse to try and sound rational. They will continue to move the goal post.
Like the "it was developed to fast" crowd (many of whom are taking all sorts of pharma meds with lists of possible side effect longer than your arm), they are trying to sound as if they've given taking a vax some serious consideration. The reality is they are boxed into an ideological corner and trying to save face.
