Parents are screaming at each other as those wanting the children to wear masks vs. anti-mask parents in the parking lot after the school board puts in a temporary mask requirement for elementary schools.
These people are insane. Threatening the school board and other parents who want the kids in masks.
It breaks my heart to see this craziness going on.

(9,986 posts)In some rural areas, its hard to avoid. Its been a few years since I listened on long drives with few options, but I remember being dismayed at the misinformation and the not-so-subtle hatred being preached against minorities and the godless government (never mind that our government was never intended to be run by God).
And theyre passing along their hate and hateful ideas to their children. This morning I read an article in the Guardian that just makes my heart shrivel at the education our tax dollars are providing for many children, specifically those in Christian schools and those being home schooled. They are teaching their children to be white supremacists using our tax dollars! Heres an excerpt.
While public school textbooks suffer from their own blindspots, a Guardian analysis has found that private schools, especially Christian schools, use textbooks that tell a version of history that is racially biased and often inaccurate. These textbooks, used in thousands of private schools, many of which receive tens of thousands of dollars in public funding every year, whitewash the legacy of slavery, frame Native Americans as lesser and blame the Black Lives Matter movement for sowing racial discord.
The article goes on to say that the textbooks used are primarily from three religious publishers.
The Guardian reviewed dozens textbooks produced by the Christian textbook publishers Abeka, Bob Jones University Press and Accelerated Christian Education, three of the most popular textbook sources used in private schools throughout the US. These textbooks describe slavery as black immigration, and say Nelson Mandela helped move South Africa to a system of radical affirmative action.

(128,920 posts)There was a news story last evening about some of the suburban Philly school districts and school boards having knock-down drag-outs about masking in the schools.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) Pennsylvania is following the lead of the CDC and recommending schools require masks for all K-12 students and staff. But the final decision rests with each school district, and that is making for some tense board meetings. Everybody, could we please be civil? asked North Penn School Board President Tina Stoll after a preliminary vote to require masks for all staff and students during their meeting Tuesday.
Public comment was cut short, after audience members wouldnt stop yelling at each other. A board member motioned for the meeting to adjourn. Before it descended into chaos, parents expressed their views, including what effect masks are having on their children: "Breathing restrictions, an inability to see each others facial expressions, and the isolation and perpetuation of fear are clearly harmful to childrens physical and psychological well-being," said one parent.
Other parents pointed out that children 11 and younger are not eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Masking the children until theyre able to be vaccinated, especially in the elementary schools, will facilitate keeping the schools open," another parent said. Those parents argued that such a plan only works if everyone wears masks. The formal vote there is set to happen next week.
The Methacton School Board also voted to require masks in schools, following passionate but more civil public comment. Things need to get back to normal for these kids. They are suffering," said Marissa Rocco of Lower Providence Township. I recognize and I understand that people are tired of masks. Im tired of them. But being tired of them doesnt change the fact that we are in the middle of a global pandemic," said Ashley Wilkerson, also of Lower Providence Township.

Here in Philly, all teachers and children doing "in-person" will be masked (decided a month ago - https://www.phillyvoice.com/philadelphia-schools-masks-fall-2021-covid19-/) and the district is working with the union to possibly implement a COVID-19 vaccine mandate - https://whyy.org/articles/vaccine-mandate-coming-for-philly-school-staff-teachers-union-pledges-support/ (with a stipulation from the union that it should be ALL staff/employees in a school, not just teachers)

Im so tired of it. They have the freedom to not mask or not mask their children. Schools have the freedom to require masks. Let these idiots keep their children home. Let them school them at home. Thats their freedom. Let the vaccinated, the masked, have the freedom to have school be a safe place.
I dont understand this bending over backwards to give these idiots their freedom at the expense of the health of the population. The federal government needs to mandate masks indoors so the states dont have to rely on red or blue governors. We need federal assistance to governors that want to mandate masks indoors. We need vaccination cards for any indoor activity. Let vaccinated have freedom to have some of their lives back. Let unvaccinated have the freedom to stay unvaxed and stay home, pay more for healthcare, keep children home and away from after school activities, sports, etc. Just do it and save lives.
Im sick of this. Why are we arguing with these assholes? Its the summer and we are in a shit show. I cant imagine what the winter will be like. Or the next variant.

(16,844 posts)the governor is too chickenshit to issue a mask mandate, so that means each school district has to decide whether they're going to have a mask mandate. It's a mess. Some schools are doing it and some aren't and parents who disagree with whatever their child's school district has decided are pulling their kids out of school. If the governor had some balls, these poor kids wouldn't be getting caught in the middle. It's a disgrace.

(2,100 posts)Of those protestors are actually those mythical crisis actors the Fascist Front accuses the left of using for hoaxing the all-too-frequent mass shootings? We know they accuse the left of doing things it turns out they do. We also know the Tea Baggers started out as paid actors and were hyped by Fake News as being a real concern that Real America(TM) cares about
