UPDATE:
*************************We have both tested negative. Still pissed off.**********************
Two of her conspiracy theory-believing, anti-vax, anti-mask, Trump-worshipping co-workers have Covid.
They all work together and share a small office.
I am furious. These two women have refused to get vaccinated because: covid is a hoax. It will make them sterile. it's no worse than the flu. Natural immunity works better than a vaccine. It's part of a Bill Gates depopulation "plandemic." The vaccine is not FDA approved...etc. etc.
They both came to work with symptoms. Chalked it up to allergies. They sit 4 feet from my vaccinated wife and mock her for wearing a mask and getting the shot. They are despicably stupid and arrogantly confidant people.
I don't give a shit about them but they exposed my wife to it. They exposed me to it. And I visited my 82-year-old step-father and 77-year-old mother, who has congestive heart failure after they did. We are all vaccinated.
One of them is pregnant, the other hopes to be someday. Right now, they are both sick with a preventable disease because they believed Facebook posts over medical doctors. They believed outlandish conspiracy theories over scientific facts. I don't know how sick they are and I, frankly, don't care. Their arrogance, ignorance, and hubris have consequences. I just hope their selfish decisions don't impact my family who has done the right thing from the beginning.
My wife is going to get tested today as am I. If either of us has it, I will never forgive these two specific idiots or the ones who empowered and emboldened them in their imbecility. I am sick and tired of coddling the ludicrous beliefs of fucking morons. At this point, I think the only thing that will keep us safe from these modern-day Typhoid Marys is six feet, not of social distancing but of dirt between them and the rest of us.

(82,849 posts)My cubicle co-worker came in with a band-aid on her shoulder and told me she'd just gotten her first shot. I congratulated her on that, told her to be sure to keep the appointment for the second shot, and had a little chat with the office manager, who was the person who told us that everyone had to come back to the office after we'd been working remotely for 16 months.

I have some very uncharitable thoughts for those two.

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/25/us/man-with-hiv-gets-prison-time-again-for-unprotected-sex.html
A Pennsylvania man with H.I.V. was sentenced on Wednesday to 33 to 66 months in prison for having unprotected sex with three women without telling them about his condition, the second time he has been imprisoned for the offense.
The man, Ricky Webster, 26, of Wilson, Pa., pleaded guilty to nine counts of reckless endangerment and will also face two years of probation. He expressed remorse at his sentencing in Northampton County, Pa., but Senior Judge Leonard N. Zito was unmoved.
This ranks among the most cowardly of human acts, Judge Zito said, according to The Morning Call. What he did, what Ricky Webster did, was to steal the lives of these young girls.

(5,126 posts)I fail to see a difference between the two situations. One might argue that the dude was actively trying to deceive the women where those two twits were just ignorant. (I think that is a completely crap defense, but I have seen and heard of worse from our legal system.)

(30,811 posts)However, given that we are in a pandemic, if they had symptoms when they came to work then it would be logical for them to think they might have it.
An office policy that requires employees stay home if they are sick would bolster a case against them.

(7,812 posts)demand workers come back, shove them in cubicles together, don't require masking or vaccine. They were worried that workers who get sick or very sick could sue.
I believe no such wet dream legislation was passed.
Someone needs to sue, once, so that companies take more responsibility for worker safety DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC

The Alabama legislature passed Senate Bill No. 30, which provides that any business, healthcare provider, church, educational entity, government entity, or cultural institution is immune from claims for injury caused by exposure to COVID-19, vaccinations for COVID-19, or providing personal protective equipment. The immunity does not apply if the injury is alleged to have been caused by wanton, reckless, willful or intentional misconduct. The Bill was signed by the Governor on February 12, 2021.
Georgia:
The Georgia COVID-19 Pandemic Business Safety Act (GCPBSA), signed by Governor Kemp on August 5, 2020, protects individuals and business from certain COVID-19 related liability claims. The GCPBSA went into effect August 7, 2020 and will remain in effect until July 14, 2021. To avoid liability, an individual or business must either (i) provide the guest with a receipt of proof of purchase for entry or (ii) post a warning sign at the point of entry to the premises, with the specific language being subject to the requirements specified in the Act. The GCPBSA does not apply in cases of gross negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, reckless infliction of harm.
Idaho

It also protects any person that designs, manufacturers, labels, sells, distributes, or donates cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment, tests or medications, medical devices, equipment, supplies, or treatments in response to COVID-19 from civil liability for failure to provide proper instructions or warnings, unless the person had actual knowledge of a defect in the product and recklessly disregarded a substantial and unnecessary risk or the person acted with actual malice. (32,634 posts)There's liability involve, as well as loss of productivity and man-hours for all these sick employees. The insurance companies must get tough and start cancelling employee-covered insurance policies, unless these companies start toeing the line.
Why does American business even tolerate this ridiculous "free-dumb" behavior? It cannot continue - they get vaccinated or they're fired. End of story.
Good luck to you and your wife, my friend. I hope you've been passed over by the Covid Angel of Death.

(1,654 posts)But at the same time they are both cowardly and greedy. They are cowardly because they don't want the backlash among the antivaxxer employees if they mandate vaccine, even though the employees would be much more productive. Just say no shot, no work. They are also greedy by not giving unlimited sick time off during this pandemic. Companies like the one I worked at before I retired think they are generous by "giving" you 10 days per year of time off - not sick time. If you have to use it for sick time, you don't get any paid vacation, so it puts pressure on you to work sick. It's penny wise and pound foolish. Sick employees aren't very productive even if they're at work. Many American companies do this, especially for non-executive positions. We have the shortest vacation allowances and the shortest sick day allowance of most "civilized" countries.

(14,176 posts)At this point, it's an ELECTIVE disease, at least for adults without immune system issues that prevent them from being vaccinated.
I heard this argument on (I think) CNN yesterday--that Abbott is encouraging hospitals to put off elective surgery so they can better deal with the huge numbers of COVID patients in the state. And the person on CNN said that the truth of the matter is that COVID itself is elective at this point. If you choose not to get your kids 12+ vaccinated and/or make that choice for yourself, who are you to keep someone from getting a colonoscopy or rhinoplasty when your illness is no more or less elective than theirs?

(19,199 posts)into a corner. Just like their cult hero, they've invested everything into these conspiracy theories, and there are only two ways out for them; a successful coup with total fascism, or death.
It will be death by COVID, fighting to protect or destroy our democracy, or old age. Or the American people will fight and lose our democracy, or roll over and allow the republicans to take total control of all government in the country, even on local levels.
Those are the only two ways out for them. In either case, MF45 has ensured that people are going to die. Either from a pernicious virus, or in defending or destroying our democracy.
That will be MF45's legacy.

(17,288 posts)Im almost 2 weeks into an emergency visit to Florida from my home in AZ because my trumpidiot brother is a 4 hour drive away was unvaccinated. I refused to let him near dad even when dad was in good shape at an assisted living.
Then dad level 10 back pain that wasnt well addressed at his local rural hospital ER, so I had him medical transported to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. I flew out immediately the next day. My idiot brother called and said what can I do. I said get a fucking vaccine if you ever want to see him again or go to his funeral (he also just diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer). The covidiot said Ill consider it. Next day he texts me, hope you are okay and get some rest. I text, Im not worried about getting rest Im worried about getting covid because so many idiots in Florida arent vaccinated and taking it home and killing my wonderful health compromised husband. Next day he got his first shot. Of course it doesnt help since he wont be really protected for another 4 weeks.
I got my first covid quick test today at the new rehab in order to be considered dads essential caregiver I had to show vaccine card and get quick 15 tested twice a week. First test negative, so things moving in the right direction.
Fingers crossed for you and your wife!

(10,163 posts)Half the people in Australia are on hard lockdown when they have a fraction of the cases the US has.
Why are we opening up and acting like there is no pandemic?
Yeah, anti-vaxxers and maskholes are idiots playing Russian roulette with our lives but who is allowing it? We would have had a surge even if most adults in the US were vaccinated. This is how pandemics go.
We need to lock down and close everything if we want to save American lives. But we wont and don't because why exactly?
The Delta variant has broken through the current vaccines otherwise vaccinated people would Not be carriers.
Yeah anti-vaxxers are the idiots but they couldn't infect anyone if we were on lockdown. And vaccinated people are carriers too.
It's this opening up as if we were Not in a 3rd wave of a very deadly pandemic that's really the cause of all this. This is almost identical to what happened in 1918. Stand by for hitting 1 million dead Americans.

(14,490 posts)This is another example of how the GOP has divided and damaged America, just like they and Russia want us to be. A seriously divided nation will never unify and revolt against the plutocracy we now live in.
They're also responsible for the deaths and disability of tens of thousands of our citizens, yet their leaders and major supporters suffer few consequences as they hide in their gated communities, private schools, yachts and secluded resorts.....
Big DU hugs to you and your family......
