"Absolutely terrible
Not enough staff. Not enough er beds. No icu beds. No vents. There is no standard of care anymore. Stretched too thin."
I hate those stupid horrible anti-vaxxers.

The main hospital remains open for all other illnesses.

(88 posts)What a heartless and cruel way to respond to human beings doing the best they can. Most of whom are people of color and/or people with limited resources.
This is NOT the way to persuade people to get vaccinated.
I'm saying a prayer for people who say such thoughtless/heartless words such as these.
I pray for compassion, sensitivity, open mindedness, and thoughtful leadership. That USED to be what democrats stood for.
And meanwhile, why is there no anger directed at the CDC for announcing no-masks for vaccinated. They have been spreaders too.
Things are not black and white. I'm praying for some wisdom here.

(7,334 posts)The CDC talking point is getting a lot of play in RW circles...why bring it up here?
600,000+ are dead...and these IDIOTS are killing more because of political reasons. I hope they all ROT IN HELL.
I thought the CDC relaxing the mask requirement for the vaccinated back in May seemed foolish, but they probably couldn't conceive that such a large chunk of the population would reject getting vaccinated. That was mid-May; we wouldn't need masks had vaccination rates continued apace from that point.

That it is all the fault of the CDC is a Right Wing talking point through and through and needs to be pointed out.

(28,214 posts)This country is in a low grade civil war, and I regard the willfully unvaccinated as the equivalent of enemy suicide bombers.
As far as anger directed at the CDC, I've seen a hell of a lot of it here (which I share), starting from the time they made that announcement.
Maybe you need to read this site a little more closely before you start making these kinds of pronouncements about posters here.

HighFired49
(459 posts)and I agree with you. Many people are not intelligent enough to figure out or make a decision about the vaccine, especially if they are heavily influenced or pressured by family, friends, and neighbors, or are economically, or medically prohibited. I suspect that there are multiple reasons for people not getting, or not being able to get the vaccine, but I also have some similar feelings of anger about the obstinate, hateful contrarians who just want to thumb their noses at Libs. and Dems., or anyone else who tries to tell them what to do.
This could have been over, or under control so much sooner if more of us still felt, or had been taught civic responsibility, instead of the "do your own thing and to hell with everyone else" mindset. It's a little late now but, we should be teaching civic responsibility, compassion, and problem solving in all of our schools through at least high school. I also think that we could convince many more people to get vaccinated with a compassionate, straight forward approach to information that would overcome their hesitancy. Getting angry with them won't help.
SoonerPride
(12,286 posts)But we do not.
Unvaccinated covid patients are literally taking up space from ICUs for heart attack and stroke patients.
With limited resources you must prioritize.
Unvaccinated people go to the end of the line.

(2,962 posts)She knows about triage.
She said there will be a time to decide who lives and dies.
The 10 year old kid or 40 year old man who didn't vax.
Who would you.choose to get medical care.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)deciding who lives or dies. It's about deciding the likelyhood of who can be saved and who cant. The ailment or injury decides who will live or die.
Texaswitchy
(2,962 posts)Both have the same chance.
The kid or the adult.
Triage will change as things get worse.
I would pick the kid.
The kid didn't have a change to get a shot.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)My post was vetted with my wife who is a retired RN with Triage being one of the things she was trained in during her 40+ year career. She said I was absolutely correct.
As far as your comparison question, there are no two patients exactly alike in every way but age. Their age alone makes them different. If the ailment was Covid, the child may have a better chance of surviving. But that chance of surviving is why you would pick them, not the fact that they are a child. But if you want to throw hypotheticals out there, what if the adult was a doctor that had the potential to save many lives? What if the adult was Joe Biden?

(23,129 posts)We could use some more critical thinking skills here on DU

(40,392 posts)It can be an awful thing. Not my stories to tell.
For too many months our home was 24/7 covid crisis, and then there's been some calm, especially after we'd both been vaccinated.
I'll be right fucking angry if we have to go through that again.
calimary
(89,129 posts)But I get your point.
I think Id prioritize the kid. By now, I sincerely wish I could find understanding and compassion for those unfortunate souls who didnt want to or didnt bother to get vaccinated. Their selfishness might well condemn someone else to death or long, ongoing illness or complications. I cant anymore.
I just cant. Too many others are at risk. Whats that old saying about my freedom to swing my fists stops at the tip of your nose?

To me the kid should still have a chance.
