On top of this data, they just opened up to 12-15 year olds today, and of the 280,000 in this bracket, 50,000 signed up in the first day (including my son ! He's already got an appointment for Pfizer on Saturday)

Good for them.

(19,956 posts)Funnily enough there has been zero giveaways like lotteries etc, but the one thing that boosted numbers is the EU digital Covid passport which would allow people to travel abroad for their holidays without quarantining.

(101,311 posts)Under 2/3rds of 18-39 year olds have had a first dose. They've have 2 to 3 months to get it, depending on age.

(19,956 posts)not vaccinated. Turns out he got the alpha Covid with mild symptoms despite being Type 2 diabetic. He's says he'll wait until he goes on a foreign holiday before getting vaccinated. There's no talking to him.

(1,353 posts)What are restrictions like OnDoutside? Were doing a southern loop trip.
Seems like very good participation for Irelands population, which for normal countries shouldnt be hard
then theres us in the US
🙄
OnDoutside
(19,956 posts)is open now but you need to show proof that you are fully vaccinated.
Also this from the US embassy
However, for travelers arriving into Ireland from the United States who present valid proof of vaccination, no travel-related testing or quarantine is necessary. If you have valid proof of recovery from COVID in the past 180 days, no travel-related testing or quarantine will be necessary.2 days ago

(1,353 posts)and no problem wearing a mask. Most of our activities will be outside anyway. What is your favorite town/place in all of Ireland? Probably hard to answer, it all looks lovely
OnDoutside
(19,956 posts)Never ask a Corkman what's his favourite place .... Cork of course ! 😄
But second and below Cork would be places like Muckross House and lakes in Killarney, the coast line around the Cork& Kerry border like Glengariffe, Allihies, the Healy Pass, the Dingle Peninsula looking out at the Skelligs. Kenmare and out to the beautiful beach in Derrynane where you can visit the house of Daniel O'Connell.

(1,353 posts)We are staying in Cork one of the nights! (after a night in Kilkenny) And Killarney also. Dingle is another stop after Ring of Kerry, then Adare to Cliffs of Mohr, Kildare and end in Dublin.
Fave restaurant in Cork? How rainy is end of Sept? Thanks for the suggestions again!
OnDoutside
(19,956 posts)What sort of food are you interested in ?
The only thing I would point out is that you may be taking on too much with that schedule. How many nights are you planning to do that in ? It will certainly be whistlestop !
Satch59
(1,353 posts)And planning a different town/activity each day, ending with 2 nights in Dublin. We pretty much travel like gangbusters, and are on the go all day to take it all in. If we feel its too hectic, could drop a stop and cancel a hotel reservation as we go along
Were both vegetarian but make do at most places, especially if its a classic Irish restaurant with ambiance
or a not to miss one.
OnDoutside
(19,956 posts)To be honest, I would have driven directly from Dublin Airport to Cork, and start there, going west. Unless of course you have a specific reason for staying in Kilkenny ?
There's a particularly outstanding vegetarian restaurant in Cork called Cafe Paradiso. [link:https://paradiso.restaurant/|
My sister and her husband are vegetarian, and they rave about it.
Do you eat fish ? I know some vegetarians do. Almost all bar/restaurants will do some vegetarian dishes, but some may lack a little imagination !

To do around Cork :
- Take a trip into the English Market, in the City Centre
- Visit Cobh, where the Titanic sailed from (my granduncle drowned on it). There's an Emigration History centre https://www.cobhheritage.com/ and you could get a boat across to Spike Island https://www.spikeislandcork.ie/

(1,353 posts)And other recommendations! We were planning on going through Wicklow National Park and Glendough Lake from Dublin and Kilkenny was recommended by a friend. We werent sure how long wed hike around so that was the reason for the Kilkenny stop.
OnDoutside
(19,956 posts)for you, that you will be doing a lot of driving and not seeing very much. That said, as long as you are prepared for that. then fair enough. When you leave Cork, go straight to Killarney, there's so much to take in there. There are boat trips going from Ross Castle out onto the Lakes of Killarney, as well as a trip out to Muckross House and gardens. Do try to get to Moll's Gap as well as the Ring of Kerry. Killarney is very touristy but they do have a nice way with it. Well worth spending two nights there, though three would be better. When going to Clare, you have the choice of taking the Tarbert to Killimer ferry (and saving hours of a car journey) but you would miss Adare and Bunratty, OR if you go to Adare, follow the road towards Limerick and take the tunnel that goes under the Shannon River. That road goes right past Bunratty Castle, on the way to Ennis. In Clare, there's the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the Ailwee Caves, and there are boat trips out to the Aran Islands.

(1,353 posts)Seems Ireland is doing well?? And with the addition of younger people able to get it, the numbers of vaccinated will continue to rise. Are there lots of hospitalizations from delta variant there?
Wish the US would approve a vaccine passport that actually checks with CDC and therefore stops the fake card market
but suppose someone would figure out to fake that
muriel_volestrangler
(101,311 posts)though its death rate is well below those 2, as is hospital admissions: https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=2020-03-01..latest&facet=none&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=new_cases_per_million&Metric=Hospital+admissions&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=USA~GBR~CAN~DEU~JPN~IRL

(1,783 posts)...the way they do with EU (and US) currency. And keep it a secret, so it takes a year or more for even the smartest counterfeiters to figure out. A pseudorandom code embedded in a QR could be one part of a multi-layered security package. Why in the world the government didn't consider the antivaxxer morons is beyond me.
