I am vaxxed as are most of my peers. Many of my students are vaxxed also!!!
It was SO great to see students in person.

(34,092 posts)Unfortunately, despite university mask orders, there is a group that deems itself special - and their supervisors are refusing to make them wear masks. Fortunately not much overlap in time and space - but when one group doesn't have to wear masks it will be pretty hard to keep everyone else masked.

(31,997 posts)but we are the largest district in KS.
All staff wear masks and I can only remember 3 or 4 students with out a mask.
AND while we have no mandate yet, our district STRONGLY encourages masks.

(51,630 posts)unless everyone was masked AND fully vaxxed. I catch anything and everything from kids and I wouldn't be able to focus on teaching if I was worried about getting sick all day, every day. I was sick 90% of the time I was teaching and that is WITH yearly flu shots, good diet, good sleep, exercise, etc. I have ended up with permanent illnesses and even had to go to the hospital for transfusions once (almost died). And it all goes back to the source...the classroom.

(32,898 posts)Not only that. Theyre demanding that the teacher also be unmasked because the students cant see her smile. These parents are truly psychotic.

(38,328 posts)... more or less, most of the time, as much as you could reasonably expect from children.
75% of those 12 Years of age and older in our county are vaccinated.
Nevertheless I'm not sure what I'd be doing if my own children were not adults.
It's possible I'd be keeping the not-vaccinated kids at home.

(1,606 posts)I am also an educator--though not in the classroom sense. I have infinite admiration and deep respect for those in the classroom.
Having been a classroom teacher, I can certainly empathize how it would be "SO great to see students in person," especially if all are exhibiting proper scientifically based and socially aware behaviors.
But really...have we sunk so low that we have arrived at the point where basic expectations of social demeanor and common decency have become cause for elation?
Welcome to dystopia--and please feel free to shoot the messenger if the hard truth is hurtful.

(111,352 posts)unless s/he likes sweaty hands. Washing hands offers a lot more protection than gloves do. Once you touch anything else with a gloved hand, you'll transfer cooties to everything eles you touch with the glove.
It's better to wash with soap and water singing "Happy Birthday" twice, which comes out to about 20 seconds. That's how long it takes for the soap to chew through the fatty envelope the virus is in and once that happens, dead virus.
I always found gloves a lot more uncomfortable than a mask was.

(4,546 posts)I do. I wear gloves because my skin can't take that much hand washing, and I also am unable to use hand sanitizer. If I did all of that, my hands would crack open and bleed. I'd rather they be sweaty! I treat my gloved hands the same as I would if I were ungloved, though, so they get washed and sanitizer applied like everyone else. I carry fresh ones if I need them, too. This works for me. He could have similar needs.
