my mom had to bring a change of clothes for me a number of times when i was in jr. high.

the only opt out i was doing when my daughter was in high school was getting her name off the list the high school gave to recruiters (which was part of the law in the no child left behind crap). parents weren't aware that the school was doing this and the school was supposed to notify parents they could opt out. i remember printing a couple hundred flyers and having my kid and her friends hand them out. (it took the high school a year to get her name off those lists, they assured me the form would be in the packet for the following school year and it wasn't. but by her junior year they managed to get it right.)

if there had been a dress code issue with my kid i'm sure i would've tried to buck that system as well. i did take issue with the art teacher who wore some type of christmas hat with a cross on it and played religious xmas music in his class. (and not only the cross and type of music--but the kids weren't allowed to wear hats--they could hide box cutters under their hat. 9/11 happened when she was in 8th grade so high school was the fallout from that)

why not opt out of all grading systems too - what right does any one person have to 'evaluate' another based on whatever 'standard' one has chosen? Besides, my kid doesn't like to study or even pay attention in class - so how fair is that?
But MOST important, why should we accept someone as the leader of our country just because of some disputed counting of alleged votes? Let's just have some 'select' group go ahead and 'appoint' a leader that would certainly be the bestest and brighterest than the rest because he uses the bigger and better words.......
