Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAll those months I wore a mask with concern
about myself and others. Then we got vaccine and felt better about being out in the world more. Even went to stores without a mask for awhile. Now, I wear a mask in stores again. We have cancelled a trip to see family in another state. We have quit going to restaurants.
So now I wear a mask with concern for myself and others and ALSO WITH ANGER.
I SHALL NOT FORGET OR FORGIVE IGNORANCE.
I believe if my husband and I were still hospital RNs, we would walk out. I do not judge anyone who does. This is intolerable.

2. Wipe out minority and other voters more likely to vote Dem;
3. Get hospitals so clogged up in the red states, that they'll be forced to ship Covid patients to blue states for health care. The
objective here is to spread the virus far and wide. (See point #1).
4. DeSantis pushes pricey experimental monoclonal antibody drug Regeneron, anything to keep folks distracted from wearing masks or

Sure plenty of minorities have made the news but a large majority of Dems are vaccinated and masking. That is not a complete overlap. There are many minority Republicans or non political folks. Vaccines are easy to get everywhere in the US. American made 3M N95 respirators are widely available now.

Luckily in Pittsburgh we have a lot of liberal-thinking citizens - we're vaccinated but most are still wearing masks. I hope it stays that way for a while.

The battle between Verstappen (Red Bull) and Hamilton (Mercedes) has been really good. Until this year, Red Bull just didn't have the speed and dependability to challenge Hamilton.

BTW, the Best F1 movie by far is "Rush" and can be found on Netflix. Another is a documentary called "Senna."
"Rush" is a Ron Howard movie. The Scene in "Rush" where Lauda puts on his helmet for the first time after his horrific accident was very telling about his character. Ron Howard did a great job of making it about the drivers, not the machines. It's beautifully shot.

Something is really creepy going on and I can't figure it out.
DeSantis is not stupid he has an undergrad degree from Yale and his J.D. is from Harvard Law and
Abbott got a BBA from U.T. and a J.D. from Vanderbilt so both of them are more than a little aware
that their policies will continue the spread of the disease along with causing more sickness, death,
grief and social unrest. Why?
I think both of them along with many others have made the brutal "political calculus" that by keeping the disease
going that might give them, the GOP, Rupert Murdoch, and others on the right some kind of political win. Are these
people so craven that killing people is better than Joe Biden looking good? Or is this some kind of fascist plot to get
power and by pass democracy? I can't put my finger on "it" but I feel "it" in my bones something is out there. This
shit is too coordinated to be happening by random chance.
BTW Putin was very successful in trying to hurt and divide America by installing Trump.

(4,291 posts)I lost a close friend to the virus in late January, before the vax became available. His death may or may not have been avoidable. We'll never know...
Once I got my Moderna jabs and the CDC lowered mask recommendation, I, too, felt almost liberated: no masks outdoors or in stores and restaurants. Of course, medical offices still mandated masks, but that was understandable and tolerable because EVERYBODY there had to mask up.
So, now, as the Delta Variant spreads like wildfire, I've just lost my next-door neighbor. He got jabbed back in February, so he did not succumb to the virus, per se. After fracturing his pelvis, the hospital refused to admit him, sending him home. A week later, he returned to the ER. A week that was full of pain and despair: he could eat, if someone spoon fed him; he could not move from his bed to a chair or even the bathroom. So back to the ER. This time, they actually ran a CT scan and found the fracture.
But instead of admitting him, they packed him off to a nursing home. Which is where he died just a few short days later.
Meanwhile, the streets, stores, restaurants, bars and even pro-football games are packing them in here in Jacksonville FL. Almost no one masked, despite the low vax rate here. I regard all these anti-vax and anti-mask morons with total contempt. They might survive, but they're putting others -- many, many others -- at risk. While the hospitals run out of beds and the staff are burning out.
I wish the medical centers would better triage patients:
- Anti-vaxers and Anti-maskers with COVID symptoms get sent to a field hospital where they'll receive paliative care. And no more;
- Save the ICU beds and limited resources for children, vaxxed people showing signs of breakthrough Delta infections, other urgent care needs.
Maybe that would get the point across.
To the anti-vaxers, anti-maskers, I have one thing to say:
You made your bed, now die in it!

The information is out there and the science has grown and changed. Apparently there are way too many people who cannot learn, grow and adapt. In the rules of evolution, those people do not survive.
There are so many long gone loved ones who I am grateful did not live to see that ignorance, hatred and false Christianity has become rampant in this country.
Now, I am more depressed, guess I should go do something else.

I wear my mask into the grocery store and catch the look of sneering contempt from the lady who walked in ahead of me. And I head to the deli counter inside the door right behind her, and stay back from her 12 feet. I used to get beat up regularly in my Alzheimer Unit, it was a condition of the job, sadly. I would NOT take it from these people. I left that years ago and took a desk job, I wasn't getting clocked upside the head there, care coordination for insurance companies. Go Universal Healthcare.

(21,323 posts)that pissed me off. Went to Mass and monsignor announced the policy for our diocese from the bishop. If you are vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask to church, if you are not vaccinated it's up to you if you want to wear a mask to church or not. These optional mask wearing policies are flat out dumb, stupid, and won't work. I am going to have to wear a mask to church now because I know for a fact that the unvaccinated people will not wear one to church. The bishop must be worried that if he mandates mask wearing for the unvaccinated that they will stop coming to Mass. Our monsignor at least gave a little spiel about getting vaccinated, which I know for a fact fell on deaf ears. This is another example where idiots are being catered to.

As a born and raised southerner, I saw this all the time. I think the quote goes: When thou prayest, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corner of the streets, that they be seen." (Matthew 6:5). It is all social theatre to them. So, let them show off. They won't be doing it for much longer.

(1,349 posts)It's not like we're the only ones who went through this. Plenty of people had it worse than we did. But my sister, a teacher her in IA, left our family home 8/10/20 to go back to the trenches (she lives 3 hours away). Because the vaccine wasn't available yet...because she has concern for others (as do all of us)...we didn't see her until she came home for the summer on 6/1/21.
People have to go insanely long periods of time without seeing loved ones (and worse things) because of these maskholes. I'm sick of everyone kowtowing to these jergoffs. CDC and stores should've never dropped mask requirements indoors for one thing. That would've (and would) made/make a difference. But they're so tired of dealing with a small minority of whiny baby tantrum throwers that they just quit and leave us all to fend for ourselves. I guess I should go into stores and start throwing tantrums about not being able to shop safely anymore.
Don't even get me started on those able to get a vaccine "choosing" not to do so.
