The Biden administrations sending of over 3,000 American troops back into Afghanistan is a result of poor planning and poor leadership in attempting to execute an operation that had been set up for success by the Trump administration.

Mike Pompeo @ Aug 14
Our administration had a model of deterrence in place as we prepared to bring the soldiers, sailors, marines, everybody who is on the ground there, home. It looks like the Biden Administration has not been able to execute this.

Dear Trumpers,
Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo agreed to let 5,000 Taliban hardcore soldiers who were prisoners be released in exchange for a 3 month ceasefire.
The prisoners they released are now murdering and killing innocent people throughout Afghanistan.

Now we know the true meaning of MAGA
Mike Pompeo handed over 5,000 of Taliban's best warriors from prison, just in time to take over Afghanistan after Biden is sworn in. Nice. Clearly Trump was paid a bribe by Saudi. So MAGA means:
MAGA = Make Afghanistan Great Again

And here he is with one of them celebrating the plan to release 5000 hard core Taliban fighters in exchange for a cease fire. Those fighters are currently some of the ones ravaging Afghanistan.

This morning Pompeo is blaming Afghanistan's problem on Biden due to his focusing on Critical Race Theory. HUH? Blame shifting.

Did you know Mike Pompeo spent $65,000 in taxpayer money on lavish dinners with GOP donors?

(81,658 posts)Some just wanted the money, an Afghan special forces officer said of those who first agreed to meet with the Taliban. But others saw the U.S. commitment to a full withdrawal as an assurance that the militants would return to power in Afghanistan and wanted to secure their place on the winning side, he said. The officer spoke on the condition of anonymity because he, like others in this report, were not authorized to disclose information to the press.
The Doha agreement, designed to bring an end to the war in Afghanistan, instead left many Afghan forces demoralized, bringing into stark relief the corrupt impulses of many Afghan officials and their tenuous loyalty to the countrys central government. Some police officers complained that they had not been paid in six months or more.
They saw that document as the end, the officer said, referring to the majority of Afghans aligned with the government. The day the deal was signed we saw the change. Everyone was just looking out for himself. It was like [the United States] left us to fail.

ahead of May 1st let lots of time for Afghani military units to negotiate with the taliban and for Taliban pressure to be applied. Trump didn't include Kabul in the negotiations. What else could have possibly happened? If the Trump State Department had no faith in Kabul how could their isolated military units.

(15,018 posts)From ABC, Daily Beast:
(Chris) Wallace, however, shot back, pointing out that a number of critics have said that Trump cutting a deal with the Taliban without the Afghan government even being involved was hugely demoralizing and led to the current chaos. (Notably, just weeks before the 2020 election, the Taliban endorsed Trump for president in the hopes he would wind up U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.)
Pompeo vehemently disagreed, claiming that it was simply not true before taking shots at the corrupt Afghan leaders who he said were more interested in lobbying for American money than building up friends and coalitions and working with the Taliban. The ex-secretary also asserted the Trump deal with the Taliban set a conditions-based withdrawal of American soldiers.
But the veteran Fox anchor wasnt done pressing Pompeo on his own record with the Taliban, bringing up the fact that he was the first secretary of state to ever meet with the group and actually heaped praise on them at one point.
Airing a clip of Pompeo last year saying the Taliban would work alongside us to destroy Al Qaeda, Wallace pointedly asked the former secretary: Do you regret giving the Taliban that legitimacy? Do you regret pressing the Afghan government to release 5,000 prisoners, which they did, some of whom are now back on the battlefield fighting with the Taliban?
Pompeo, for his part, responded by saying you make peace with your enemies while also insisting that the Trump administration never trusted the Taliban.

(6,573 posts)The Trump transition was deliberately disruptive and foot-dragging nonsense, like frat boys being evicted. I do think that this withdrawal could have been handled better, but I don't blame Joe, who has to deal with a lot of left-over crap. And I have no respect for Pompeo. The country shouldn't care what this asshole thinks.
