Why did the Soviet puppet government in Afghanistan last two and one-half years after their troops left?
Something went horribly wrong with the Afghan armed forces.

(1,182 posts)called America nothing more than an organized crime syndicate under the guise of a "democracy".
Hence the whole Twin Towers debacle --cutting off the "horns" of the Great Satan/Money Beast-- that started all this.
"Americans love nothing more than money" was kind of the point. Bin Laden said exactly that.
So yeah, maybe they believed in the Soviet propaganda slightly longer, until that collapsed as well.
Subtle difference, but interesting nonetheless.

(89,249 posts)to do with some wrong committed by the US. That was all religious extremism which terrorizes females in their country.
And Soviets were doing horrible things also.
But looking back and knowing everything we know now we could have just waited a bit longer for the USSR to collapse and avoided those proxy wars .

Just ask Filipinos have been conquered by the Spanish, Japanese, and US Your average Filipino loves America.

I think One difference was that the post-Soviet government fought back, while the current group saw the Taliban takeover as inevitable and took off or gave up as quickly as possible.
And I think what you said dovetails nicely with Putin's new "piety", which plays so well to the Republican/Evangelical base.
The latest tactic in our never-ending "war with Eastasia", as it were.

This is the part where the chorus comes in (picture cartoonish thugs in a pub hoisting pints):
"Ooooooh, in every system sufficiently complex chaos reigns supreme! | chaos reigns supreme! | chaos reigns supreme!"

(23,389 posts)There were many thousands who were deeply committed to the ruling partys project regardless of Soviet presence/absence. The government aimed to mobilize people politically against the Islamist insurgents.
