Speaks Farsi as well as other languages. He knew the ins and outs there and was at the right spot at right time.

Anderson Cooper was free lance too in Rwanda.

That said, both of them need to get out of there. Rescuing them WHEN they're abducted will be a nightmare

... he was taken captive (temporarily) but he had no idea how it was going to turn out. The fact that he's fluent in Farsi has served him well, I guess.

... as do a lot of Americans who have been living there for the past several years. He probably needs some va-cay time, as do a lot of those journalists.

I've made it a point to follow Richard Engel on his Friday night shows. Periodically he has an hour show "Richard Engel On Assignment" when Rachel gets the night off. I believe he does it remotely because he can't always fly into NY to do the show. Sooner or later I think he'll get a big promotion and a regular show on NBC.
