Afghan bank official posts on what happened with the Taliban
Sounds like the Afghan defense forces were cooperating with the Taliban. Perhaps Biden knew this and that's why he pulled the plug so fast. They could have quickly turned on all the remaining U.S. personnel.

There is now apparent agreement to let the evacuation continue without constraint by the Taliban.
