Anyone else having trouble with searches on Twitter? - update and solution

Last edited Tue Aug 17, 2021, 11:46 AM - Edit history (1)

It was fine earlier today, but for the last half hour or so, every time I try to switch to a different keyword or name search, I get a popup asking me to log in or sign up. First time I've ever run into that. The Twitter page I want to go to does show up behind the popup, but if I close the popup, the page reverts to the previous one where I'd typed in the keyword.

Editing to add that I got rid of the problem this morning after deleting Twitter cookies, which hadn't caused this problem before, but for some reason started doing so partway through the morning yesterday. I'd figured out a temporary workaround that let me do just one keyword or name search before Twitter would lock me onto a page yesterday, but that was annoying compared to the usual skimming and doing lots of keyword/name searches without having to log in.

Then they start their nag-screens, just like you're getting.

You can go out, re-start your browser, and then go back in again. That might buy you a couple minutes before they start nagging you again.

My son tells me I should just open an account on Twitter so I can log in.

from the first Twitter link. Never had this happen before. And I haven't logged in to Twitter for several years. I used to have a Twitter account but got rid of it because I didn't want to see every tweet from anyone I followed. I just prefer to search for keywords or names and skim the Top tweets, looking for news or interesting comments. Never got that popup till today, though I often will search for quite a while on different topics.
