14-year-old freshman NaTalia Urlacher received a one-day suspension and was sent home early from Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois, for declining to wear a face mask before going inside the building on its the day of school.
My daughter was handed a mask at the door, and she told them politely, I dont really participate in that, the childs mother Sheri Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune. They repeatedly asked her to pull the mask up over her mouth and nose, and when she politely declined, they called me.
Although she didnt comment on Urlachers case, specifically, Township High School District 211 representative Erin Homles shared that the district is required to enforce the state of Illinois school mask mandate to minimize the risk of COVID virus transmission, and that the requirement is a matter of public safety.
A students refusal to wear a mask poses a potential threat to the safety of other students and staff as we return to full in-person instruction, Holmes went on to say.
Well, at least she was polite.

(65,213 posts)It's not a voluntary participation program.
A school in Elmhurst was legitimately threatened with disacredidation because they made noise about a mask voluntary approach.
The next day(!!) they released a statement that it was just a discussion, they never intended to ignore the mandate, and announced a no exception mask policy.
At least up here in the northeast quadrant of the state, schools are taking this seriously.
Nobody asked this punk to participate. She is REQUIRED to participate.
It's not a suggestion.

(1,096 posts)If they do, there will be many other districts facing the characters 'politely' endangering the lives of everyone in their schools.

(1,495 posts)With the contagiousness of Delta, we will be lucky if we can do in-person school. Wearing masks might be the only thing that makes in-person classes possible. They are jeopardizing school for everyone else.
